In this post I tell you everything we did on our return to visit our hometown Maracaibo on vacation last year, while my husband was working, the kids and I took advantage of those days and went with him to spend a hot time with our family.

We had not returned since 2018 before the pandemic, and on that occasion the trip was for the death of an aunt, until a year ago, in June 2022 we returned.

I had been wanting to share about this trip that for me was an adventure in the city because I was learning to drive and I was able to get around the streets of Maracaibo alone with the kids in the car.

Months went by and I finally wrote about it and now that I was about to travel to Maracaibo again with the family this weekend, remembering the loveliest moments of that time, I tell you a little with these photographs.

En este post les cuento todo lo que hicimos en nuestro regreso a visitar nuestra ciudad natal Maracaibo en las vacaciones del año pasado, mientras mi esposo estaba trabajando, los niños y yo aprovechamos esos días y nos fuimos con él para pasar un rato caluroso con nuestra familia.

Desde el año 2018 antes de la pandemia no habíamos vuelto, y en aquella oportunidad el viaje fue por la muerte de una tía, hasta que ya hace un año, en junio de 2022 volvimos.

Desde hace bastante tiempo quería compartir sobre este viaje que para mí fue una aventura en la ciudad porque yo estaba aprendiendo a manejar y pude desenvolverme sola con los chicos por las calles de Maracaibo en el auto.

Pasaron los meses sin que por fin escribiera al respecto y ahora que estuve a punto de viajar a Maracaibo nuevamente con la familia este fin de semana, recordando los más lindos momentos de aquella vez les cuento un poco con estas fotografías.

Gathering the kids with their paternal grandmother definitely was the best because they have had very few moments to share.

We also went out for a walk on the lakeside promenade, the loveliest place in town, where in the middle of the harsh sun it's possible to cool off under the shade of the trees and the breeze from the great body of water that is the city's symbol.

On the lakeside promenade we ate cepillados, a type of ice cream that in other places they call raspado or granizado.

I took the kids to eat at Fein Kaffe, one of the restaurants that I remembered most fondly, and fortunately I found it to be even better than ever after all these years, even though many things in the city have changed. I adore the combination of art and gastronomy at this site.

Reunir a los niños con su abuela paterna definitivamente fue lo mejor porque han tenido muy pocos momentos de compartir. Además salir a compartir por la ciudad con familiares que hace tanto tiempo no veíamos.

También salimos un rato a pasear por la vereda del lago, el lugar más lindo de la ciudad, dónde en medio del sol inclemente es posible refrescarse bajo la sombra de los árboles y la brisa del gran cuerpo de agua que es el símbolo de la ciudad.

En la vereda del lago comimos cepillados, un tipo de helados que en otros sitios llaman raspado o granizados.

Lleve a los niños a comer en Fein Kaffe uno de los restaurantes que más recordaba con cariño y afortunadamente lo encontré mejor que nunca después de tantos años aun cuando muchas cosas de la ciudad han cambiado. Adoro la combinación de arte y gastronomía de este sitio.

Of course there were no shortage of exquisite Maracaibo dishes, they are the kings of junk food with a taste that I miss a lot and I can't find in any other region of Venezuela.

On this occasion we stayed at the Gran Delicias hotel, it is a hotel with tradition in the city that was very frequented for its very privileged location. I had been told that the hotel was ruined by the pandemic and the crisis, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the hotel was recovered, remodeled and that all its areas are in their best moment, only that it still did not have a restaurant in operation for that moment, but to stay I totally recommend it.

The craziest thing that happened to me on this trip was to visit the Galerías Shopping Center and discover that what had been the only ice rink in the hottest city in Venezuela is now a nursery and variety store, how crazy !. Additionally, in this space there was a fantastic dance floor or stage where a niece appeared with her dance school.

For now I say goodbye to everyone, but I warn you that I will be back here very soon telling you about my next trip to Maracaibo that was at Christmas, and it is worth coming back to review the city because it is that at Christmas Maracaibo is transformed.

Por supuesto no faltaron las exquisiteces maracuchas, son los reyes de la comida chatarra con un gusto que extraño mucho y no encuentro en ninguna otra región de Venezuela.

En esta oportunidad nos hospedamos en el hotel Gran Delicias, es un hotel de tradición en la ciudad que era muy frecuentado por su ubicación muy privilegiada. Me habían contado que el hotel se arruinó con la pandemia y la crisis, pero me llevé una maravillosa sorpresa al descubrir que el hotel fue recuperado, remodelado y que todas sus áreas están en su mejor momento, solo que aún no tenía restaurante en funcionamiento para ese momento, pero para hospedarse lo recomiendo totalmente.

7 ¡Lo mas loco!

Lo más loco que me ocurrió en este viaje fue visitar el Centro Comercial Galerías y descubrir que lo que había sido la única pista de hielo de la ciudad más calurosa de Venezuela ahora se convirtió en un vivero y tienda de variedades, ¡qué loco!. Adicionalmente, en este espacio había una fantástica pista de baile o tarima donde una sobrina se presentó junto a su escuela de danzas.

Por ahora me despido de todos, pero les advierto que muy pronto estaré por aquí nuevamente contándoles sobre mi siguiente viaje a Maracaibo que fue en navidad, y vale la pena volver a reseñar la ciudad porque es que en navidad Maracaibo se transforma.
