Letztes Jahr war ich auf dem Besuch meiner ersten Mineralienmesse in Dortmund.
Dort durfte ich sehr viele interessante und auch für mich neue Mineralien und Fossilien betrachten. Ich selbst war hauptsächlich dort, um nach Gold zu suchen, aber ein Stand hatte es mir besonders angetan. Es war der Stand mit Opalen. Ich bin schon lange von ihnen fasziniert, es gibt sie in so vielen Formen und Varianten, besonders der schwarze Opal ist sehr wertvoll, aber leider hatte er keinen. Wir kamen so ins Gespräch, weil ich auch ein Nugget aus Australien gekauft hatte. Und so erzählte er uns, dass er dort einen Claim hat und Untertage nach Opal gräbt und er regelmäßig nach Deutschland auf die Messen fährt, um ihn hier zu verkaufen.

Last year I was on the visit of my first mineral fair in Dortmund.
There I was allowed to look at many interesting and also for me new minerals and fossils.
I myself was there mainly to look for gold, but one stand I was particularly fond of.
It was the stand with opals.
I have been fascinated by them for a long time, they come in so many shapes and varieties, especially the black opal is very valuable, but unfortunately he didn't have any.
So we got to talking because I had also bought a nugget from Australia.
And so he told us that he has a claim there and digs underground for opal and he regularly goes to Germany to the fairs to sell it here.
Ich hatte mir einen Opal ausgesucht, aber so viel wollte ich an dem Tag nicht ausgeben, zumal wir gerade erst angekommen waren und ich mich erst einmal umsehen wollte. Aber ich durfte trotzdem Fotos machen.
I had picked out an opal, but I didn't want to spend that much that day,
especially since we had just arrived and I wanted to look around first.
But I was allowed to take photos anyway.
Ein paar Stände weiter habe ich noch einige andere schöne Mineralien gefunden.

Opal
Spinell
Ich fand sie alle sehr schön, aber ich habe sie nicht gekauft, weil mein Kollege aus Österreich immer sagt, ich soll ihn erst fragen oder selbst auf die Suche gehen. Ich beschloss, dass ich bis zum Sommer warte und versuche, mit ihm zusammen eine Tour durch die Stollen zu machen, um sie selbst zu finden.
I found them all very nice, but I didn't
buy them because my colleague from Austria always says I should ask him first or go searching myself.
I decided I would wait until summer
and try to tour the studs with him to find them myself.
Am Ende verschlug es mich immer wieder zu dem Stand der Opale, aber ich blieb hart und ließ sie dort liegen, was mir wirklich schwerfiel. Wir unterhielten uns dann noch ein wenig und er lud mich sogar ein, sollte ich jemals in Australien sein und nach Opal graben wollen, sollte ich mich bei ihm melden. Er gab mir aus dem Grund noch seine Visitenkarte und wir verabschiedeten uns.
In the end, I kept getting lost in the stand of opals, but I persevered and left them there, which was really hard for me.
We ended up talking for a bit and he even invited me, if I was ever in Australia
and wanted to dig for opal,
I should contact him.
He gave me his business card for that reason and we said goodbye.
