3 Almost Secret Corners of Venice: Acqua Alta Bookshop, Rialto Market, Building Bridges

Hello my dear hivers! I bring you this beautiful bookstore located a few meters from McDonalds, which I never got to because in the end I got lost in traditional corners of the city.

I thought a lot about whether to do a “3x1” post where I would show these three places I visited in Venice or whether to do one by one the different posts, and in the end I decided to go for the first way, even if I lose the specificity of each place in WorldMapPin. Otherwise I think it will be too short a post for each one.

I would like to tell you that my favorite of the three is the last one I will show you.

Besides, I don't want it to be an eternal post that nobody will read because of its length. And I think that anyone who wants to know Venice can't miss this: Acqua Alta bookstore, Rialto Market, Building Bridges.

3 Rincones casi secretos de Venecia: Librería Acqua Alta, Mercado de Rialto, Building Bridges

Hola mis queridos hivers! Les acerco esta bellísima librería que se encuentra a unos metros del McDonalds, al que nunca llegué porque al final me perdí por rincones tradicionales de la ciudad

Pensé bastante sobre si hacer un post “3x1” en donde mostrara estos tres lugares que conocí de Venecia o sobre si hacer una a una las diferentes publicaciones, y al final he decidido optar por el primer camino, aunque se pierda la especificidad al momento de señalizar cada sitio en en WorldMapPin. Sino creo que quedará un post demasiado breve para cada uno.

Les comento que mi preferido de los tres, es el último que les mostraré.

Además no quiero que quede una publicación eterna que nadie lea por la longitud. Y creo que quien desee conocer Venecia no puede perderse esto: Librería Acqua Alta, Mercado de Rialto, Building Bridges (construyendo puentes)

Acqua Alta Bookstore

Near the Rialto Bridge you will find a bookstore that will take you on a journey through history, not only because it has titles from yesteryear, but because the style makes it clear that it has been in Venice for quite some time. However, although it looks really old, the Acqua Alta bookstore opened in 2004.

The bookstore, famous for the cats it houses and who choose this space for their home, offers the public calendars with their little animals and books arranged in the most original ways you can imagine. My favorite shapes were the bookshelf where you can climb up to take a picture and where there is a ship's rudder as an ornament, and the gondola in the middle of the place that is filled with books.

Librería Acqua Alta

Cerca del Puente de Rialto encontrarás una librería que te llevará de viaje por la historia, no solamente porque tiene títulos de antaño, sino porque el estilo nos deja en claro que lleva en Venecia un buen tiempo. Sin embargo, aunque parece realmente antigua, la librería Acqua Alta se inauguró en 2004.

La librería, famosa por los gatos que acoge y que eligen a este espacio por su hogar, ofrece al público calendarios con sus animalitos y libros dispuestos de las maneras más originales que puedas imaginarte. Mis formas preferidas fueron la estantería a la que una puede subir a tomarse una foto y en donde hay un timón de barco de adorno, y la góndola del medio del sitio que está rellena de libros.

Rialto Market

This is a traditional food market where people can enjoy hopefully fresh fish, fruits, vegetables and more.

When I arrived, it was just getting ready to open. Its aroma was extremely particular (not at all pleasant) and I could tell that it was expecting to receive both locals and tourists.

The waste was piled up on the side, waiting to be removed, and although the image is not particularly beautiful, I decided to take a picture of this, which is also an urban exponent.

What most caught my attention in the area was the cab stand and the gondola station, from where boats were leaving to take tourists who wanted to live the experience.

The most striking thing for me were the gondoliers' costumes, with black and white striped suits.

Mercado de Rialto

Este es un tradicional mercado de comida en donde la gente puede disfrutar de pescados esperemos que frescos, frutas, verduras y más.

Cuando yo llegué, recién lo estaban preparando para abrirlo. Su aroma era extremadamente particular (para nada agradable) y se notaba que esperaba recibir tanto a locales como a turistas.

Los residuos estaban amontonados a un costado, esperando a ser retirados, y aunque la imagen no es particularmente bella, decidí hacer una captura de esto, que también es un exponente urbano.

Lo que más me llamó la atención de la zona fue la parada de taxis y la estación de góndolas, desde donde salían embarcaciones para pasear seguramente a los turistas que querían vivir la experiencia.

Lo más llamativo para mí fueron los trajes de los gondoleros, con trajes a rayas blancas y negras.

Building Bridges

This work is quite far away and I saw it by chance while sailing to the Acqua Alta bookstore. I had to go around the island to visit and I was on the Vaporetto because it was cold and a little rainy.

From the Vaporetto at one point I turned my head and saw mudras. I swear I had to stop for a moment, because I thought am I really seeing mudras Indeed. At that moment I googled and saw that there was this bridge where we can see 5 mudras (gestures made with the hands in Yoga and Hinduism) that form either a tunnel or a bridge. The work is by Lorenzo Quinn and according to venecisima.com “Each pair of hands in the sculpture celebrates one of the six universal human values: FRIENDSHIP, to build the future together; WISDOM, to make mutually beneficial decisions; HELP, to cement lasting relationships; FAITH, to trust your heart and your self-esteem; HOPE, to persevere in worthwhile endeavors; and LOVE, the fundamental purpose of it all.”

Building Bridges (Construyendo Puentes)

Esta obra está bastante alejada y la vi de casualidad mientras navegaba destino a la Librería Acqua Alta. Tenía que bordear la isla para visitarla y yo iba dentro del Vaporetto porque hacía frío y llovía un poco.

Desde el Vaporetto en un momento giré mi cabeza y vi mudras. Les juro que tuve que detenerme por un instante, porque pensé ¿estoy realmente viendo mudras? Efectivamente. En ese momento busqué en Google y vi que existía este puente en donde podemos ver 5 mudras (gestos que se hacen con las manos en Yoga y en el Hinduismo) que conforman bien un túnel o un puente. La obra es de Lorenzo Quinn y según venecisima.com “Cada par de manos de la escultura celebra uno de los seis valores humanos universales: AMISTAD, para construir juntos el futuro; SABIDURÍA, para tomar decisiones mutuamente beneficiosas; AYUDA, para cimentar relaciones duraderas; FE, para confiar en tu corazón y en tu autoestima; ESPERANZA, para perseverar en esfuerzos que valen la pena; y AMOR, el propósito fundamental de todo esto».”

The funniest thing about this work is that it is inside the Arsenal of Venice, but I came to see it from the Biennale di Venezia which was under construction and did not allow its passage. But since there was no one there, I ran in and took some pictures. I had to be very fast because I was terrified that they would close the door and I would not be able to get out of there.

Lo más gracioso de esta obra es que está dentro del Arsenal de Venecia, pero yo llegué a verlo desde la Biennale di Venezia que estaba en construcción y que no permitía su paso. Pero como no había nadie, entré corriendo y tomé algunas fotos. Tuve que ser muy veloz porque estaba aterrorizada de que cerraran la puerta y que no pudiera salir de allí.
