Hello, everyone!

I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I'm fine, I feel rested and free from family drama. I guess that's a good thing. I changed the tea-writing duo I've been doing for a long time and turned it into a coffee-writing duo this time. I'm glad I did. I told you in my previous blog that my cousin came from Azerbaijan. Now I will tell you about our experience and that we went with her to see the Basilica Cistern, one of the beauties of Istanbul.

Since there are mostly columns in the Basilica Cistern, my photos will mostly be 9:16. To be honest, although I don't like 9:16 photos while writing on Hive, perhaps as a side effect of my generation, it is always easier to take such photos.

We started by travelling from Avcılar to Sultanahmet, it was very cold and snowing again. Unfortunately for Aisha, it coincided with the worst weather time, but as the older cousin, it was my duty to show her around Istanbul, one of the biggest metropolises of Türkiye and even the world.

So we took my thickest hat-hat-scarf duo and set off. Just before we set off here, we were at the Avcılar Cihangir metrobus stop, luckily our aunt lives 10 minutes walking distance from this stop. In Istanbul, it is especially important to be close to the metro and metrobus.

After about 1.5 hours of travelling, we arrived at the Basilica Cistern and fortunately we didn't wait long. I think the weather had an effect on this. There were not even 100 people besides us, which is usually crowded here. I paid 200 TL (5.51 USD) as a citizen and my cousin paid 950 TL (27 USD) as a foreign tourist. I think there are a few things that need to be changed here. For example, citizen ticket prices and the tariff applied for Azerbaijan, the sister country, because Azerbaijani citizens have recently increased their visits and students have a very difficult time when they come.

As people looking for a place to make a wish, this place was full of money. Especially foreign currencies attracted my attention. I even saw one of the tokens in the places where there are children's toys or arcade-like games. I get it, we are a little stingy, but 1 TL (0.02 USD) would be better. Because a token is at least around 15 TL (0.4 USD) 😂

In this place where the lights are constantly changing, it is very normal that something different catches your attention every second with the temporary artefacts in the surrounding area and organised by the museum management, which is exactly what happened to Aisha. In general, she liked every place I took her and looked around with her eyes wide open.

As we were heading towards Medusa, a lot of things caught our eyes because I was bombarding her with information as much as I could and we were moving slowly so that we would get our money's worth. Of course, I should add that there is another Medusa before the inverted Medusa head and this is the side.

We could still see coins everywhere. I think it is very normal to find Medusa and the entrance part, but I couldn't make sense of the other parts.

I believe this artefact is more recent. At least it came after my last visit. I love it!!! I love the play of light, especially in works of art, but this one intrigued me even more. Everyone knows my love and interest in Medusa and Lilith. I guess that's partly why I was drawn to this work. I watched it for a while and tried to photograph it from different angles, but this was the best one.

And the busiest part of the museum. People stop here. I think they're very interested in Medusa. Especially upside down. There is a saying, the enemy looks at the foot. We can attribute Medusa's being upside down to both this and the fact that the friend is not at eye level. When my cousin heard that, she thought it made perfect sense.

When we came to the end of the museum, the last ones were the weeping column and this artefact. This artefact is made of glass and made with a special technique. So I think they put it further away from the columns so that people could not easily reach it. It made a lot of sense. Sometimes people forget to behave like human beings.

That's it for the Basilica Cistern Museum. I don't want to bore you by telling you the whole day because most of it was on the road and I will share the rest with you in my next article. I think this little trip will be in 4-5 parts.

Umarım iyisinizdir ya da iyi olmaya çalışıyorsunuzdur. Ben iyiyim, kendimi dinlenmiş ve aile dramasından arınmış hissediyorum. Bu sanırım iyi bir şey. Uzun zamadır yaptığım çay-yazı ikilisini biraz değiştirip bu seferlik kahve-yazı ikilisine çevirdim. İyi ki de yapmışım. Size Azerbaycan'dan kuzenimin geldiğini bir önceki yazımda söylemiştim. Şimdi onunla birlikte İstanbul'un güzelliklerinden biri olan Yerebatan Sarnıcı'nı görmeye gittiğimizden ve deneyimimizden bahsedeceğim size.

Yerebatan Sarnıcı'nda genelde sütunlar olduğu için fotoğraflarım çoğunlukla 9:16 olacak. Açıkçası Hive'da yazı yazarken 9:16 fotoğrafları pek sevmesem de, belki de neslimin bir yan etkisi olarak, bu tarz fotoğrafları çekmek her zaman daha kolay geliyor.

İşe ilk önce Avcılar'dan Sultanahmet'e gitmekle başladık. Hava çok soğuktu ve yine kar yağıyordu. Aisha'nın şansına en kötü hava zamanına denk geldi ama büyük kuzen olarak ona Türkiye'nin, hatta dünyanın en büyük metropollerinden biri olan İstanbul'u göstermek/gezdirmek benim görevimdi.

Bu yüzden en kalın şapka-kaşkol ikilimi de alıp yola çıktık. Burada yola başlamadan hemen öncesi, Avcılar Cihangir metrobüs durağıydı ki şanslıyız ki teyzemiz bu durağa 10 dakikalık yürüme mesafesinde yaşıyor. İstanbul'da özellikle metro ve metrobüse yakın bir konumda bulunmak önemli.

Yaklaşık 1.5 saat süren yolculuğumuzun ardından Yerebatan Sarnıcı'na vardık ve neyse ki çok beklemedik. Sanırım havanın durumunun da buna etkisi vardı. Bizim dışımızda 100 insan bile yoktu ki genelde burası kalabalıktır. Ben vatandaş olduğum için 200 TL, kuzenim ise yabancı turist olduğu için 950 TL ödeyerek içeri girdik. Bence burada değiştirilmesi gereken birkaç şey var. Mesela vatandaş bilet fiyatları ve kardeş ülke olan Azerbaycan için uygulanan tarife çünkü Azerbaycan vatandaşları son zamanlarda ziyaretlerini artırdılar ve öğrenciler geldiklerinde çok zorlanıyorlar.

Dilek dilemeye yer arayan insanlar olarak burası para doluydu. Özellikle yabancı para birimleri dikkatimi çekti. Hatta bir tane çocuk oyuncaklarının olduğu ya da atari benzeri oyunların olduğu mekanlardaki jetonlardan dahi gördüm. Anladım, biraz cimriyiz de 1 TL daha iyi olurdu sanki. Bir jeton en az 15 TL civarında çünkü 😂

Işıkları sürekli değişen bu yerde çevrede bulunan ve müze yönetimi tarafından düzenlenen geçici eserler ile birlikte her saniye farklı bir şeyin dikkatinizi çekmesi çok normal ki Aisha'ya da aynısı oldu. Genel olarak onu götürdüğüm her yeri beğendi ve etrafa gözleri sonuna kadar açık şekilde baktı.

Medusa'ya doğru ilerlerken bir sürü şey gözümüze çarptı çünkü hem ona elimden geldiğince bilgi yağmuruna tutuyordum hem de yavaş ilerliyorduk ki verdiğimiz paranın karşılığını tam olarak alalım. Tabii eklemliyim ki ters Medusa kafasından önce başka bir Medusa daha var ve bu yan.

Her yerde hâlâ paraları görebiliyorduk. Sanırım Medusa'nın ve giriş kısmında bulunması çok normal fakat diğer kısımlarda bir anlam veremedim.

Bu eser daha yeni sanırım. Yani en azından benim en son ziyaretimden sonra gelmiş. Bayıldım!! Işık oyunlarını özellikle sanat eserlerinde çok severim ama bu daha da ilgimi çekti. Medusa ve Lilith sevgimi ve ilgimi bilen bilir. Sanırım biraz da bu yüzden çekildim bu esere. Bir süre izleyip farklı açılarla fotoğrafını çekmeye çalıştım fakat en iyisi bu oldu.

Ve müzenin en yoğun kısmı. Burada insanlar duruyor. Sanırım Medusa oldukça ilgilerini çekiyor. Özellikle de ters olması. Bir söz vardır, düşman ayağa bakar. Medusa'nın ters olmasını hem buna hem de dostun göz hizasında olmamasına bağlayabiliriz. Kuzenim bunu duyduğunda çok mantıklı bulmuştu.

Müzenin sonuna geldiğimizde ise sona kalanlar Ağlayan sütun ve bu eserdi. Bu eseri camdan yapmışlar ve özel bir teknik ile yapılmış. Bu yüzden sanırım insanların kolayca ulaşamayacağı şekilde sütunlardan daha uzağa koymuşlar. Oldukça mantıklı geldi. Bazen insanlar, insan gibi davranmayı unutuyorlar.

Yerebatan Sarnıcı Müzesi bu kadardı. Size bütün günü anlatıp da sıkmak istemiyorum çünkü çoğunluğu yolda geçti ve geri kalanını da bir sonraki yazımda sizinle paylaşacağım. Sanırım 4-5 part şeklinde olacak bu minik gezi.
