My mom-in-law's last visit to Lake Mead :(

Happy Sunday y'all, amazing people especially to all the wanderers out there!

Today, I would like to take you on a journey back in time to a day that holds a special place in my heart. It was a day of family, love, and the simple joy of being in nature. This was just before the pandemic hit us all, a time when we could freely explore the beauty of the world around us. My husband, my mother-in-law (may her soul rest in peace), and I decided to take a break from our daily routine and escape the bustling city life of Las Vegas. I am sharing this since a good friend of mine told me she's visiting Las Vegas this week and might be able to stop at Lake Mead, which is what I am going to share with you all.

You see, my mother-in-law was not in the best of health at that time. She was confined to a wheelchair, but we didn't want her to be confined to her house all day, every day. We wanted her to feel the sun on her skin, the breeze in her hair, and experience the joy of being outdoors. So, we thought, why not a quick getaway to nature? And what better place than the serene Lake Mead?

We hopped into my mother-in-law's car, and my husband took the wheel. We waved goodbye to the bright lights and excitement of the Las Vegas Strip, and off we went on our mini getaway. The drive from the Strip to Lake Mead is around 30 miles, give or take, and it usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get there, depending on traffic and which route you take. As we left the city behind, the scenery transformed right before our eyes. Instead of towering buildings, we were greeted by vast stretches of desert, with occasional glimpses of rugged mountains in the distance. Let me tell you, the drive itself was a real treat. The open road stretched out in front of us, inviting us to soak up the freedom of the great outdoors. We rolled down the windows, letting the warm desert breeze tousle our hair, and cranked up the tunes, creating our very own road trip playlist. As we cruised along, we couldn't help but marvel at the ever-changing landscape. The desert came to life with prickly cacti, unique Joshua trees, and all sorts of other desert plants. And get this—we even spotted some desert critters like jackrabbits and roadrunners, adding a touch of excitement to our adventure.

Lake Mead, as some of you may know, is one of the tourist spots in Las Vegas that offers a refreshing change from the busy strip of casinos, hotels, and clubs. It's a place where families can spend quality time together, away from the noise and the crowd. The lake has a lot to offer: activities, adventures, shows, and even restaurants for those who want to enjoy a good meal with a view. But we were not there for the adventures or the shows. We were there to simply soak up the tranquility of the place.

As we arrived at Lake Mead, I could see the excitement in my mother-in-law's eyes. The sight of the vast, sparkling lake, set against the backdrop of majestic mountains, was indeed a sight to behold. We decided to just hang out by the lake, feed the fish, and wander around. It was a simple plan, but it was all we needed to make the day special. One of the highlights of our day was definitely feeding the fish. Who knew that such a simple activity could bring so much joy? My mother-in-law, with a wide smile on her face, would throw bits of bread into the lake, and we would watch as the fish swarmed around, creating ripples in the otherwise calm water. It was a sight that warmed our hearts. As we wandered around, we couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of nature around us. The chirping of the birds, the rustling of the leaves, the gentle lapping of the water against the shore—it was music to our ears. We took our time, soaking in the sights and sounds, creating memories that would last a lifetime. We wrapped up our day with a lovely meal at one of the lake-side restaurants. As we sat there, enjoying our meal and watching the sun set over the lake, we couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. It was a day well spent, a day that we would cherish forever.

Our trip to Lake Mead was not about the adventures or the activities. It was about spending quality time with our loved ones and making them feel loved and cherished. It was about finding joy in the simple things in life. And I believe that's what travel should be about—creating memories, spreading love, and finding joy in the journey. So, my dear fellow wanderers, I urge you to take a break from your busy lives, to spend time with your loved ones, to explore the beauty of nature, and to create memories that you will cherish forever. And remember, it's not about the destination; it's about the journey and the people you share it with.

Until next time, keep wandering, keep exploring, and keep spreading love, joy, and peace. Thank you for reading. Wishing everyone a great day wherever you are!
