Good evening, beautiful souls!
Around noon today, I went out to run some errands. And since I was with my daughter, I decided to go to one of the tourist attractions in our town, San Juan, La Union called Mebuyan Vessel before heading back home. This is situated just a few walks from the beach. I saw this attraction yesterday posted on Facebook group I am in. It's funny because I live not far from the place and I only heard about it yesterday. If you look from a distance, it looks like a spaceship made of huge circles with stairs connecting to each other. Being inside the vessel was so cool overlooking the ocean. It felt like I was in a fairytale story. A few of the circles has a couple of paintings too and photographs attached to them. I gotta give credit to the artist/s.
It took us an hour wandering around and when we got very hungry, we decided to go home. I plan to go back there and would be best during the sunset. It was a little hazy when we were out there, yet was a lovely visit.
A Little Background Behind The Creation Of The Vessel
This installation by the artist is a tribute to Mebuyan, Bagobo (goddess of the underworld). In the Aboriginal worldview, the underworld is not considered a bad place like the Christian hell. Even death is not considered the enemy of life. Death supplies life, allowing rebirth and rebirth, while life honors death with memory and lineage. They are a couple who together maintain the divine balance of the universe.
**Mebuyan is the mother who gathers lost souls and gently guides them to their home in the underworld. **
Every end is a new beginning, and sees a future world of possibilities with many offspring waiting to be born from this wandering soul. Each pod is an invitation to each of us. We imagine the world we choose, and shape the future that exists in our everyday words and our dreams of the night. Through Mebuyan's Vessel, the artist want to tell the story of La Union (my province), where the creativity and wisdom of our community permeated.
The Artist
Lerot New is an artist from General Santos City and was born on 1986. He is also a designer that intersects film, theater, product design and fashion. He was initially trained as a sculptor and tried everything from designing films to working with fashion designers to creating 3D models for commercial purposes. He was able to incorporate this tendency to move from one mode of creative production to another as the core of his creative practice.
So I think it was worth visiting.
One love,
