If you are like me, you might not know much about this island. It's located in the southern Caribbean Sea just north of the Venezuela coast and is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Since this was just a stop on our cruise, we only spent a few hours here but it was our favorite port of the trip. It was also the only stop where we were in port during the evening which allowed us to enjoy a little of the night flavor of the island.
We arrived in the afternoon and followed this lovely bridge over the channel to have a walk around the neighborhood. As night fell, we were dazzled by all the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations.
This is the same bridge we are standing on, shown after dark when it was lit up:
On both sides of the water, there were many stunning Christmas displays.
Since it was evening and we had spent several days on the cruise ship we decided to have a local meal. We started with a tropical margarita:
At this particular local cafe the daily special was nasi. Not knowing what that was, but feeling adventurous, we decided to try it:
Nasi is the Indonesian form of fried rice. It has a spicy blend of shrimp paste and chicken topped by a fried egg, with a side of cucumber and onions. It was delicious and we were very happy with our decision!
All in all, we have found cruising to be a great way to see a lot of places and have a great time, make new friends, and create lifelong memories. This particular 14-day cruise left Tampa, FL and made stops at Key West, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands, Barbados, Antigua, Grenada, Curacao, Aruba, and Cayman Islands.
