Hi dear Hivers in Pinmapple community, today I would like to take you to Hang Tau, one of the most beautiful primitive villages in Vietnam. I had a business trip to Moc Chau, a mountainous town of Son La, one of the North West provinces in Vietnam. With a featured location, Moc Chau has many beautiful destination, and is becoming popular destination for travellers in tourism map of Vietnam. Today I would like to take you to Hang Tau, a primitive village in Ta So, Chieng Hac commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province.
About the location, Hang Tau is nestled in the valley which is surrounded by steep mountains. Hang Tau is about 20km from the center of Moc Chau town. An important note is that you cannot find the location of the village in the map. I knew about this village on a tourism magazine of Moc Chau on flights, and I decided to hire a local guide to take me there.
At first, he drove me there from Moc Chau town by his car. After going through winding mountainous road, we had to stop at the beginning of a small dirt road that is 3,5km long leading to the village. Then we had to hire local people to drive us on their motorbikes. On the dirt road there, I had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the both sides. Even though I went there on the middle of the day, everything was covered by thick fog and cloud, which created a fairy tale view.
And as the motorbike stopped at the gate of the village, I got off the bike to walk through the gate at a canyon. I was so WOW with the breath-taking and poetic view of the village. There are about 20 small houses at the foot of steep mountains which are like giant guard of the village. And in the middle of the village is a large meadow that is the paradise of the livestocks here.
The small houses at Hang Tau have unique architecture. They are built from natural materials such as soil, stone, clay, wood and bamboo. They are stilt houses built right at the foot of the mountain. The Mong people are quite small people, so their houses are also quite small. These small houses not only bring architectural beauty but also time. Another thing I love about these houses is that the villagers like to hang our national flag with the houses to show their love to our nation.
And the highlight of this primitive village is the large green field in the middle of the village. It is not only a paradise for horses, buffaloes, cows, dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks in the village but also a playground and common space for children and villagers.
Mong people is a big group of ethnic minority people who have the custom to live in high and rugged mountains in the North West area of Vietnam. And here in Hang Tau, Mong people has a simple life without electricity, internet and phone signal. They make a living by planting crops like rice, corns, sweet potatos,...raising livestocks like buffalos, pigs, cows, chicken, ducks and horses. They also go to forest and hunt. Living in a remote and separate location, they lead a self supply live. They even weave their own clothes.
For me, I had a wonderful time over there. Walking around the village, I could feel the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere over there. I couldn't here anything except the sound from the villagers talking, the livestocks, the horses and the birds. In the immensive nature, those rustic sounds are together creating a great harmony. Another interesting thing is that not only people but also animals over there are so friendly. It seems to be that living in such a nice place makes these animals calm and happy. I could approach and play with any animal over there.
I also directed by a villager to a cave on a mountain cliff behind the village. And then I didn't miss the opportunity to explore the cave. It was quite tough to climb up the cave, but the reward was totally worthy. It's a beautiful cave with thousands of years old stalactites. Actually the name of the village is named as the name of the cave. Cave means Hang in Vietnamese.
And finally, another great thing when you have a chance to come to visit the village is that you can have meal with the villagers. It's great to learn about Mong people's cuisine and the way they make food. They don't use many spices, but the dishes are so delicious. I really like the grilled black chicken, wild vegetable and sticky rice cooked inside a wooden pot.
I hope you had a great time with me in Hang Tau primitive village. Thank you very much for taking to read my post. Wish you a nice day.
