Chicago: United Center and Wrigley Field! (IX)

in #hive-1637722 years ago

Hello Pinmapplers!

We return to Chicago, again a new visit, because there are always places to see and enjoy, and in the windy city there are many... It has been about two months since I have published anything about this great city in the United States, I have published about other places closer recently visited, couldn't wait.

But it is time to continue and surely soon to end the series of articles on Chicago or Chi-town as some call it, maybe an update is needed... We have toured the city of architecture with our heads up looking at the impressive, iconic and unique skyscrapers, marveling at the skyline and visiting fantastic parks with spectacular design. We have enjoyed the views from Lake Michigan, while we had fun in its waters, we have loved listening to music in its parks and also visiting museums, because there is a lot of entertainment and fun, so we cannot leave out an important point, sports and stadiums in Chicago.

So, sports enthusiasts, this is your post, and for those who are not so much, well, it is also curious to know these places as points of tourist interest, because they are part of the real life of those who live here and the best thing when we arrive at a new city is to do the same as those who are here. And Chicagoans like sports. Let's go!

United Center

The first place to visit is the United Center stadium, even if you are not into sports, because there is something that every tourist wants to photograph here. So we go on a gray and cold day as it often happens in Chicago, it's no a secret.

But it doesn't matter because as soon as we arrive at its doors, we are greeted by the tribute statue of Michael Jordan, the American basketball legend and star of the Chicago Bulls for many years. I also remember him and many will even wear his shoes, right?

So like the rest of the people we walk around his statue and the phrase says it all: “The best there ever was. The best there ever will be”.

We also walk around the stadium and realize that it is not only for the home games of the Chicago Bulls, the basketball team, but that it is shared, when there is no season, with the ice hockey season, and there it becomes the home of the Chicago Blackhawks, a team also very loved and with many followers.

And why not go inside and watch a game? Since it's winter, we have to cheer on the Chicago Blackhawks of course, but we're not the only ones, it's full of people, there's music, shouting, lots of lights, the American anthem starts. Then the match.

Lots of excitement, action and high spirits, while I look around in a space outside of my reality. But everything is contagious. We have fun, that's the goal.

Wrigley Field

And if to go to the United Center we have moved to the west of the city center, to go to Wrigley Field it is easier just a little to the north, a few subway stops and in the very heart of the city the great iconic sign appears.

It's iconic because the Chicago Cubs baseball team is tremendously loved, respected, and followed. It seems that for many years they didn't win anything because they said there was a curse, that's what they told me, but that detail didn't stop their stands from always being full two or more times a week, in games that last 3 or 4 hours. That's love. (And I think that the bad streak finally ended).

In the end we go in and we have to do like the rest, with the T-shirt (I keep mine still here) to go buy a hot dog of those that in Chicago wear everything on top. Then sit looking at the views and the entire field, if you wear a coat even better a blanket, because after hours it gets dark and it's cold in Chicago.

Time passes and we entertain ourselves, it's fun when we already understand the game well, go Cubs!

Soldier Field and more...

This would be the last of the big stadiums in the city, Soldier Field, located much further south, it is a stadium for many events and home to the Chicago Bears (the American football team), yet another sport team. But it is not easy to get tickets and they are not cheap, so we just pass by.

We would be missing one of the mythical teams in the city, another rival baseball team the Chicago White Sox, they also play in the south at Guaranteed Rate Field, but we will have that other game pending... and in the meantime, after so much excitement and fun, we have to go celebrate the victory!!!

Fall in love with Chicago, you'll see more...

Oh I didn't know of a Cubs curse, only the Boston Red Sox. There has to be though they had years of bad luck. Anyways they broke it in 2016 winning the World Series. What was the outcome of the game you attended? If so you would have witnessed the W or L flag?

Oh I was a huge Jordan and Bulls fan. If your born after 2000 there are arguments who's the best. I go back and forth with my son on this topic all the time, lol. Micheal Jordan is the best ever!! Haha

I can remember that 1985 Chicago Bears team well. They had a hard nosed defense, maybe the best ever. They lost only one game that year on a Monday Night to my team, Miami Dolphins!! Haha. To this day the Dolphins are the only team in the Super Bowl era to run the table. The Bears definitely threatened that. I say "Da Bears."

Hockey and the White Sox I don't know much about. Chicago is definitely up there on claiming the city as "Title town" They have won a lot of them. Thanks for this Duvinca you brought back a lot of sports memories :)

Jaja happy you like the post, it is a bit specific but I had a lot of photos and it was another cool experience... about the Blackhawks, I don't remember well because I didn't understand much jajaja but I think they lost that match, I could see the wins of the Chicago Cubs because I went more than one time 😅 it was easy, cheap and close, and almost always there was a match!

And I remember Michael Jordan very well as I'm 40 😉 the first time I went to the stadium just to see the statue! I'm not a big fan of sports but there all was different, I had fun!

I don't understand hockey much either plus me on skates uneasy, haha. Oh yes baseball the longest lasting season, 162 games.

Uf yeah a lot of games, 162 x 4 o 5 hours sometimes!! 😅

That's just regular season not counting spring training games. Those are usually play else where it's warmer.

Yay! 🤗
