Hello people and pinmapplers!
We return to our usual trips, those memories we created in those moments when we visit new, different and exciting places. Because traveling inspires us and produces us varied reactions and feelings, we contemplate beautiful corners, views and landscapes while we visit spectacular spaces.
And this time it is an elegant and quiet city, Stockholm, on the shores of the cold Baltic Sea and very special because it is made up of 14 islands and that makes it unique, a kind of Venice of the north as they say and also with that fascinating charm of classic buildings, from another time that also make us travel back in time while, this time, instead of just walking we also cross its calm waters.
From the sea the perspective is also different and we realize that Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is a charismatic but unpretentious city, waiting for us to discover it both on gray and sunny days.
We discovered a lot, that skyline so different from what we usually see, with beautiful colorful buildings and a line of trees, which without leaves on days that are not yet warm and cloudy give us a bucolic feeling, not actually sad but of absolute peace...
But it is with more rays of sun when the charm shines more and we can also recognize some more representative buildings while, for example, from one of those islands, such as Södermalm Island, the biggest one in the heart of all this city area, and there we play with the seagulls. These accompany our route and make our panoramic views more dynamic.
Among these views we distinguish canals and docks with very different boats, from modern yachts or catamarans, here life is very sea-based too, to large ferries that connect the different cities and Baltic capitals, but also as it could not be otherwise, we are surprised by some Viking ships, waiting who knows whether to go out and conquer some territory like those brave warriors who populated this area did in the past.
So traveling by sea, and through time, the Royal Swedish Opera and the Royal Palace of Stockholm stands out impressively, that of the Swedish royal family and where every day at noon if I remember correctly or some days a week you can see live the changing of the guard, we will see that in more detail in another post when we set foot on land...
And another very important building in the city, whose tower we can now see, is the Town Hall (Stadshus), very interesting outside and inside, since it is where the famous Nobel Prize ceremony is held. We will also see it in more detail in another post, another unmissable visit...
Afterwards we find ourselves among fine trees still without leaves and others that adorn different islands and parks, a dome catches our attention, it is the Skeppsholmen Church and we may take a walk there too, this is in other island where we find also other special place...
But in the downtown area there are other large buildings that compete for prominence on the front line, such as hotels, the Sheraton or this Grand Hotel decorated with flags that also seems from another era.
And we continue with official buildings, which are on the shore like a rounded one, it is the so-called Riksdag and it is the parliament of Sweden.
But to contrast so much officiality we can also have fun and the most popular amusement park in the city is also near the sea, it is the Gröna Lund located in Djurgården island and as you can see you can see the roller coaster and a tower for those who like heights, more views to enjoy. And also there a fantastic museum (VASA museum) of a giant Viking ship, we have to visit it!
We enjoy our sea voyage that takes us back to Södermalm Island and on its docks we continue contemplating those views and surroundings of the historic center of Stockholm itself while we think about our new stage and area to discover in the city, because we know that there are interesting things left. , beautiful and curious to see and some more I will tell and share in other posts. Now all that remains is to continue enjoying the charm of Stockholm on the shores of this special Baltic Sea.
