Today I'd like to show you what else you can see at the lovely zoo I visited last week, in Marosvásárhely (Targu Mures). Today there are around 750 animals belonging to 150 species, of which some are indigenous, while others are exotic animals, brought here from other continents. You can check out the first part of my adventure here.
Taking photos at the zoo is always a huge challenge. You don't have the conditions you need, nor the freedom to go closer of climb up to where you would have a better angle. Not to mention your photo model never speaks your language, so communicating with them is out of the question. Yet, you do what you can, as always.
There's a way to convince them to come to you, but ... as there's always a but, it's forbidden. Yes, you are correct, feeding the animals is not allowed and unfortunately that's the only way of bribing them.
Last week I made an attempt and tried to do my best, but I'll let you decide how I did.
These cute horses were having a siesta as it was extremely hot that day (today is even hotter). They were not interested in greeting visitors. In one occasion I saw one lose, it was a pony roaming around freely, to the great joy of the children.
There are several huge cages for hawks and other birds that need space to fly. This was a raven.
New addition compared to previous years was this wooden structure with a roof, that allowed visitors to sit down and have a rest. It would be the perfect place for me to work there, but with the visitors and children screaming all the time, that is out of question.
Next, there's the big greenhouse, with exotic plants, like palm trees and birds or course, of all kinds.
These photos were taken throughout the glass, which was never clean, so, please be gentle with opinions about the quality of the photos. Not to mention the reflections.
It's like a jungle, with all these tropical plants, trees. Humidity is quite high too, which I hate, but it ti necessary.
It was lunchtime for these little cuties, so they were busy trying to fill their stomach with whatever they were served that day.
Next there were the reptiles, always a huge attraction to kids and grownups as well. This green anaconda was resting peacefully, or watching carefully?
The tiger python was not interested in visitors either. It was bathing.
Both of them actually.
This red lady was not sleeping, she was climbing up and down on the rock, to show us she's not like the lazy rest.
Can you see its head? Can you figure out where it starts and where it ends?
Then there's a pool with the turtles. These can be so funny. Imagine them walking up and down on those rocks, falling down all the time. And imagine the sound their shell makes.
And there were the big guys you have to fear, if they are free. Better tell them see you later alligator and leave 😁 However, you were safe here as they can't get out of there.
The aquarium is a nice place by the way, there are these old roots and the greenery, making the place more real.
I took a closer photo of this one, having a rest at the side of the pool. While looking at it, was thinking how differently we understand what these reptiles mean. Due to unsuitable climate, these reptiles are not roaming around freely in the country. There are snakes of course, but not as the one you see in these photos. What we have here are small snakes, some deadly, but no alligators. So seeing them in the zoo is a nice thing, but I don't think many think of how dangerous these reptiles can be.
There were a few turtles outside too and I tried to take a decent photo of these cuties, but despite of what you think, it was so fast I could hardly capture it. The fence was not helping either, it made my life difficult :)
These smaller ones were having lunch.
So this is it for today. Which one is your favorite? Is there any animal you've never seen before?
