Witnessing the underwater creatures is such a wonderful feeling, isn't it?
Last November 2021, we had a trip to Bohol, the Philippines where we did a lot of activities. From visiting famous destinations to island hopping and even on an adventure, everything felt so exciting. I truly enjoy our stay and every moment was memorable.
I also can't forget one of the experiences that I had during our trip and that would be our snorkeling at Balicasag Island. I never tried snorkeling before, so my experience at Bohol was my first time. I honestly felt nervous and excited at the same time, I can't wait to start actually.
Looking back, we woke up early in the morning as our boat was waiting to take us to the island. As we were on our way to the beach, I have seen these birds just chillin' together. I guess they were looking for food. And what's amazing was when I passed by to where they were, they didn't fly away, they just stay right there.
When we reached the beach, the surroundings feel so wonderful. I have seen a serene view of the sky and the seawater. Aside from that, I have seen several starfish as well. As much as I wanted to touch them, I can't since I'm afraid. I have also witnessed something boiling on the sand. It's not hot though, but it's boiling-looking. I love staring at it and even touching it. Aside from that, I was also grateful that there was no sea urchin present during that time since I am so scared of their spikes.
We waited for the boat and as it arrived, we hop in. I could feel the excitement of each one, including me. I wonder what would I be able to witness underwater during our snorkeling time.
As we started our travel, I could see the calm ocean. I have also seen how clear the water was at that time. The cold breeze of the air bumped at my skin and I feel at peace.
Furthermore, we reached the island, finally. I forgot how many minutes did it take us to reach the island since I was too busy looking around and staring at the waters.
As we got there, we went to the ticket booth. Before we started our snorkeling time, we were oriented first on what we will be able to witness. From there I realized that Balicasag is a well-known snorkeling and diving site where one will be able to witness the Pawikan or Sea Turtle. They also said that it's not an easy thing to do, but through the help of the guide, they will surely make sure that before ending the time, we will be able to witness one. We were also asked to buy biscuits to feed the fish and so that they will come to us as well.
After the orientation, we headed to where the boat was. As we reached there, I have seen dogs roaming around. I am such a dog lover so I wanted to pet them or even feed them.
A few minutes after that, we were instructed to ride on the boat and we took a groufie with my friend and then we started our journey. The weather was so good that time, not too gloomy and not too sunny as well. The clouds also look great.
When we reached the area where the Pawikans are mostly present, the guide swam and look underwater to check for them. He was ecstatic and told us to jump on the boat and witness the Pawikan. I was so happy to witness one. But I wasn't able to take a photo of it since it was quite dark, only the pawikan was so visible in my eyes.
By the way, I was bringing the transparent case for underwater experience to capture the fishes down there. As we started snorkeling, I also took photos and videos of the underwater view.
Here are some photos of the underwater view that I captured (some of them are screenshots from the video I recorded):
Unfortunately, some of the photos are quite blurry because of the movement of the water.
I did enjoy looking around and watching the fish swim. I have seen the scary part of the ocean as well, especially when we reached the deep part. I can't seem to see what's down there, only darkness covered around it. I even overthink that there might be sharks, but thank God, no sharks appeared.
We stayed there for about an hour I also took a photo of myself during and after snorkeling.
Balicasag Island is such a wonderful place for snorkeling, diving, or even just chillin'. If I will be able to visit Bohol again, I will surely visit Balicasag again soon.
