We decided to visit the old city one of the weekends when the weather was better. Well, now we have very dusty days for the past few days. The weather is certainly getting hotter. It is only the beginning of our long summer months here. Looking forward to October already.
The area has had massive makeover in the last few years and just around the corner, you will find the Al seef heritage souq (market). But we didn’t go to this part of the old city.
Dubai has always been a trader’s paradise, where east meets west. This is still very evident if you head to the Old city of Bur Dubai and Deira. If you enjoy a good bargain on clothes, carpets, jewelry, souvenirs, lanterns, perfumes, spices amongst other things, you certainly will find it here.
Most of the stores close during the afternoon hours. The lanes and by lanes that were bustling with activity only a few hours ago, now are peaceful and quiet.
The city is well connected both land and water. Take the Abra (boat) for as little as 1 AED and you can reach Deira. Deira is another old city area across the creek.
You will find all sorts of spices here in the spice market. Some I have heard of and some I haven’t heard of.
A short walk and you will find the gold souq (Gold Market). It is an entire street filled with stores that sell gold. And you will find anything to fit your budget.
The older neighborhoods of Dubai has its own charm. I am already looking forward to exploring more of the old city. Hopefully this weekend Inshallah.
