Ulm, Germany - A lovely town with the tallest church in the world (Ulm Munster) !

in #hive-1637722 years ago

I was in Ulm in Southern Germany last week with work, and I managed to get a little free time to explore the town centre including the superb Ulm Munster.

The Munster, or church (which is not a cathedral), is actually the tallest church in the world ! The building is quite spectacular, although there was a lot of scaffolding on it - but thats a good thing - they were preserving it for futures years.

I did go inside the munster to check it out, and it was quite stunning - although the pics I took came our really blurry, which is a shame.

Work started on construction back in 1377 - making it 650 years old !

The Munster really dominates the town centre due to its size, and acts as a nice landmark to make navigation easy when getting around town.

But there is also a lot of other nice Germanic architecture in the town centre. I was quite happy exploring the town taking in the sights !

I quite liked the sign above this doorway - house of the 3 kings, I think.

And above is a picture of the town square in front of the Munster.

I loved the old building above. Just look at how some of those large beams have warped and buckled over time - I'm guessing the floors are a similar state on the inside !

And above is what I would think of, if someone asked me what Bavarian architecture looked like. I just love all of the extra windows built into the roof !

And above is one of the side streets in the older part of town, looking towards the Munster. Quite quaint indeed ! I could happily sit out there with a beer on a nice evening !

Well, I really did enjoy my time exploring the town and taking in the architecture and sights. I was lucky to get to go somewhere nice with work ! And the Munster was so worth visiting - spectacular !

Now that is what I call a church!
The windows in the roof are kinda cute too...

I have to say it was quite awesome - inside as well, pity the pics didnt come out

gosh that's huge! and incredible architecture, the 3 King's above the door.. did they symbolise something?

I'm guessing the 3 kings, are related to the 3 wise men in the bible as they seem to be carrying gifts, but I dont know

OK that's what I sort of presumed thankyou 😊

I was struck by the contrast that the church makes with the space, not only by the height of it, but by the contrasts it has as such and the way it looks with the city. I am intrigued to know how would be the planning process of the surroundings to it. 😵😵

Thats a really good point - there is a huge contrast. Generally the town is much more modern compared to the church.

Looks great there. I've only driven past on the motorway. Will try to visit now. !ALIVE !CTP

The town centre is quite nice, as is the walk along the Danube.
