Este domingo pasado nos hicimos un corto viaje hasta el pueblo de Carlos Keen, un lugar mágico y detenido en el tiempo que comenzó a languidecer lentamente 40 años atrás cuando decisiones del gobierno de turno cerraron ramales de ferrocarril por todo el país. Este pueblo fue uno de los perjudicados y se quedó sin la vía de comunicación más rápida y barata para satisfacer sus necesidades de movilizarse, recibir y enviar mercaderías, en definitiva mantenerse en el mapa y tener alguna posibilidad de crecimiento.
Prácticamente todo el comercio se detuvo y el centro de actividad más cercano era la ciudad de Luján, zona muy fuerte en cuanto a turismo religioso pero también por su gran potencial agrario, todo debía hacerse viajando hasta esa ciudad, que no se encuentra lejos pero no es lo mismo que su propio pueblo.
Pero con el paso de los años algunos habitantes de la zona copiando quizás la idea de otros a quienes les ocurrió algo parecido comenzaron a abrir restaurantes para ofrecer las cosas buenas que tenían, sus carnes de primera calidad, sus hortalizas y otros alimentos naturales y orgánicos que se desarrollan en esas ricas y productivas tierras.
Se convirtió en un pueblo de turismo de fin de semana con un motivo principal: la gastronomía y así como ese, otros pueblos volvieron a tener una luz de esperanza al observar la creciente cantidad de personas que se acercaban esos fines de semana para pasar el día en un lugar apacible y de paso almorzar degustando esos exquisitos asados de carne tierna y gustosa del lugar.
Luego también apareció en su enorme plaza una feria de artesanos que ofrece productos de excelente calidad y buen gusto, muy diferente a varias de las ferias que conocemos aquí en la Capital Federal, llenas de productos baratos y de mala calidad importados de países asiáticos que fabrican a granel con buenos precios aunque de calidad y utilidad dudosa.
Quesos y fiambres de la zona, cuchillería, mates y bombillas exquisitamente construidos, bisutería, jabones y perfumes naturales, talabartería, Antigüedades, instrumentos musicales, pastelería, cualquier producto del lugar es posible encontrarlo en esa feria, muy recomendable.
El almuerzo fantástico, tuvimos que recorrer varios restaurantes hasta encontrar uno con lugar, la mayoría ya estaba reservado con una semana de anticipación. Ya lo sabemos para la próxima.
Para nuestra sorpresa también disfrutamos de una procesión y un desfile por las festividades de Corpus Christi, nos acercamos hasta la antiquísima iglesia de San Carlos Borromeo donde ya la misa y los festejos habían finalizado, solo pudimos observar el adorno de flores, plantas, piedras y tierra con el cual cada año ofrendan para la fecha.
Para el final descubrimos un auto antiguo en perfecto estado de conservación, le tomé algunas fotografías aunque no reparé en la marca y modelo, mi esposa me llamó para que observara un gran ombú donde varios chicos pequeños estaban trepados solo para disfrutar de la aventura, otra fotografía y emprendimos el camino de regreso, se había puesto muy frío, el invierno está a la vuelta de la esquina y aunque la jornada se había presentado soleada y sin nubes, el viento comenzó a soplar y ya no estamos en edad de enfermarnos.
Bello paseo, totalmente recomendable. Todo el viaje por autopista y en 40 minutos recorrimos los 90 kilómetros hasta la comodidad y la calidez de nuestra casa.
Carlos Keen - a frozen town in the time
This past Sunday we took a short trip to the town of Carlos Keen, a magical place stopped in time that began to slowly languish 40 years ago when decisions of the current government closed railway branches throughout the country. This town was one of the victims and was left without the fastest and cheapest means of communication to satisfy their needs to mobilize, receive and send merchandise, in short, to stay on the map and have some possibility of growth.
Practically all trade stopped and the closest center of activity was the city of Luján, a very strong area in terms of religious tourism but also because of its great agricultural potential, everything had to be done by traveling to that city, which is not far away but not it is the same as his own people.
But over the years, some inhabitants of the area, perhaps copying the idea of others to whom something similar happened, began to open restaurants to offer the good things they had, their top quality meats, their vegetables, and other natural and organic foods. that develop in those rich and productive lands.
It became a weekend tourism town with a main reason: gastronomy and just like that, other towns once again had a light of hope when observing the growing number of people who came those weekends to spend the day. in a peaceful place and by the way, have lunch tasting those exquisite roasts with tender and tasty meat from the place.
Then an artisans fair also appeared in its huge plaza that offers products of excellent quality and good taste, very different from several of the fairs we know here in the Federal Capital, full of cheap and poor quality products imported from Asian countries that manufacture in bulk with good prices although of dubious quality and usefulness.
Cheeses and cold cuts from the area, cutlery, mates and exquisitely made bombillas, costume jewellery, soaps and natural perfumes, saddlery, antiques, musical instruments, pastries, any local product can be found at this fair, highly recommended.
For the fantastic lunch, we had to go through several restaurants to find one with a place, most of them were already reserved a week in advance. We already know about the next one.
To our surprise we also enjoyed a procession and a parade for the Corpus Christi festivities, we went to the ancient church of San Carlos Borromeo where the mass and the festivities had already ended, we could only observe the decoration of flowers, plants, stones and land with which each year they offer for the date.
In the end, we discovered an old car in perfect condition, I took some pictures of it although I did not notice the make and model, my wife called me to look at a large ombú where several small boys were climbing just to enjoy the adventure, another photograph and we started our way back, it had gotten very cold, winter is just around the corner and although the day had been sunny and cloudless, the wind began to blow and we are no longer at an age to get sick.
A beautiful walk, totally recommended. The entire trip was on the highway and in 40 minutes we covered the 90 kilometers to the comfort and warmth of our home.
