Hello, Hive :)
It's the weekend once again and along with that comes the yearning to travel. Unfortunately, life happens making it a bit challenging to go about places as of late. Nevertheless, let me share a glimpse of the place where we used to live some years ago.
I welcome you to La Trinidad or "The Trinity" in Spanish, and is the so-called "Salad Bowl of the Philippines." It is referred as such because it is the point of sale for most fresh highland vegetables which supply most of the nation's needs.
Another name it was given is "The Strawberry Fields of the Philippines" because it is known for its strawberries. It is a first class municipality in the province and is pending to become a city. Here's the map of its Strawberry fields (the one enclosed in a purple marker).
The Valley
Below is a partial view of the valley with the strawberry fields. The farms are one of the main attractions in the locality. Tourists from around the country travel and come to this part of La Trinidad especially during the summer season or even on long weekends or holidays for strawberry-picking and do some photo-shoots.
Strawberries, lettuce, red cabbages and other greens are grown all-year-round in this area.
Also in the bustling center of the valley is where most businesses happen. It houses the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post and the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) where highland vegetables and related products are sold on wholesale and retail. Buyers from around the nation flock to these centers daily to buy supplies and transport them in 10-wheeler trucks to the different cities and provinces in the country.
From there, we are going towards the edge of the valley in Barangay Wangal (as shown in the red arrow on the photo below) which is just a few minutes drive from the Strawberry Farms. Without traffic, one would reach the place in just about 5 minutes.
Benguet Sports Complex
Formerly known as "Stockfarm" is currently getting a total makeover to becoming a world-class sports facility. This place was often used as a space to host local fairs like that of the Strawberry Festival, Adivay and other local events.
Now, the place is getting improved and it is said that it will have a multi-purpose gym with state-of-the-art basketball court and a multi-purpose oval and other facilities which includes an Olympic-size swimming pool in the hope of participating in the bid to hosting not only national but also international sports events.
Red rubber tartans are being installed on the 400-meter track oval to make it an all-weather running field.
Among other improvements include an upgrade to the bleachers, tennis court, installation of wooden court in the gym and fiberglass boards for basketball.
These were photographed last month and pretty sure, the implementation of all upgrades are in full blast and am now excited to see how the place looks like after the face lift.
And here's to share a few more captures from a garden around the area.
Smile... laugh often... love more... be happy and grateful ALWAYS!
