Two Reasons Why You Should Take a Drive on Chapman's Peak Drive!

in #hive-16377214 days ago

Yes, I know I have already published two posts, sharing some great views from Chapman's Peak Drive and the exhilarating experience that goes along with it...lol. If you haven't seen them yet, you can find them here:

But today, in my third and final post about Chapman's Peak Drive, I want to share more information about Chapman's Peak Drive, and even more spectacular views! And while we're at it, I'll give you two reasons why you should go for a drive on Chapman's Peak Drive.

Two Good Reasons for using Chapman's Peak Drive!

To wet your appetite, I would like to start this post with a YouTube video (not my own) which can be seen on the website of Chapman's Peak Drive. It will take you about two minutes to watch this video.

This is like a trailer video of a more detailed video which also can be seen on the Chapman's Peak Drive website.

If you want to appreciate more of Chapman's Peak Drive, it's history, what went into protecting the natural environment during it's construction, the maintenance involved, and the status it enjoys in South Africa, also watch the full video on the Chapman's Peak Drive website. It will take about 6 minutes to view the full video.

Again, the above two videos are not mine, but they do appear on the Chapman's Peak Drive website.

From here on forward, all images are my own.

The Main Reason For Driving on Chapman's Drive: The Views

These photos were taken while returning from Noordhoek, coming back towards Hout Bay.

In my first image we were approaching the area of Hout Bay again. If you look at the barrier wall in the foreground, you will notice that the photo has been taken from a moving vehicle.

The reason why I am pointing this out, is to emphasise the fact that this route is perfect for a relaxed drive, enjoying the beautiful and spectacular scenes and surroundings! No, I wasn't driving though, my brother-in-law was driving. But you can enjoy the scenery and surroundings (and even take photos, only if you are not driving though...lol) while you are enjoying a slow, relaxing drive.

The next two photos were taken seconds after the first one, where I wanted to capture the colours in the water below me.

Another Reason for using Chapman's Peak Drive: It's a Relaxing Drive!

The reason why you are ensured of a relaxed drive on this route, is the fact that a toll fee is charged to travel on this route, which is specifically aimed at holiday-goers, tourists, and/or locals who just want to come out and enjoy the beauty of nature on this route.

We paid R64.00, which, at the time writing, equals just under $3.50. That allowed us to travel both directions, from Hout Bay to Noordhoek and back.

The Chapman's Peak Drive is considered a National Heritage site, as it is also situated inside a national park.

The next two images shows the "tunnel" as seen coming from Noordhoek's side.

The videos in the beginning of this post, show beautiful areal views of the tunnel.

Chapman's Peak Drive stretches over a distance of about 9km between Hout Bay and Noordhoek and has approximately 114 curves.

While "normal" traffic follows the alternative route between Hout Bay and Noordhoek, you can relax, taking a slow drive while enjoying views such as these...

At several places, provision has been made where you can safely pull over and get out of your vehicle to admire the scenery.

Here, you can see Hout Bay in the background.
