A tour through the Botanical Garden "Carlos Thays" in Buenos Aires

Today I am starting to share with you the first of many trips that I do with my family around our beautiful city and some others locations we have the pleasure to visit. We live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, just a few minutes away from Capital Federal so there will be many entries for this set of amateur photographic posts.

Hoy estoy empezando a compartir con ustedes la primero de muchas salidas que hago con mi familia alrededor de nuestra hermosa ciudad y algunos otros lugares que tenemos el placer de visitar. Nosotros vivimoso en Buenos Aires, Argentina, a solo unos pocos minutos de distancia de Capital Federal, asi que va a haber varias entradas en esta serie de posteos de fotografía amateur.

Last weekend we went to visit this extensive triangular (-ish) shaped garden located in the beautiful neighborhood of Palermo. Named after the landscaper who conceived it in 1892 to be where it is, which once was a gunpowder warehouse at colonial period, the botanic garden covers almost 80.000 m² with more than 1.500 plant species from all over the world which for some reason ended up growing in different locations of Argentina.
We got up early in the morning to do some usual chores before going out, but there is always much to do at home, so we ended up in the car by almost eleven o'clock in the morning. A bit late but we had all day available.

El fin de semana pasado fuimos a visitar este extenso jardín de forma casi triangular situado en el hermoso vecindario de Palermo. Nombrado en honor al paisajista que lo concibió en 1892 para el lugar donde está ubicado, que alguna vez fue un almacén de pólvora en el período colonial, el jardín botánico cubre casi 80.000 m² con más de 1.500 especies de plantas de todo el mundo que por alguna razón terminaron creciendo en diferentes ubicaciones de Argentina.
Nos levantamos temprano en la mañana para hacer algunos quehaceres diarios antes de salir, pero siempre hay mucho para hacer en casa, y terminamos en el auto casi a las once de la mañana. Un poco tarde pero teníamos todo el día disponible.

The garden has six self guided tours in it, including an interactive one for children. There is a QR code for each one with information to read and music to hear while doing them. We opted to follow the one called "Ellas en el Botánico" which refers to the female sculptures we can find in the garden. So we walked towards the first sculpture at the farthest corner. As we got there, we thought about the place being so vast that we would need at least two days to follow each tour separately. We decided to take our own tour by going through the hole garden zig zagging to cover every spot of it.

El jardín tiene seis recorridos auto guiados, incluyendo uno ineractivo para los más pequeños. Cada uno tiene un código QR con información para leer y música para escuchar mientras se hace cada recorrido. Nosotros optamos seguir uno llamado "Ellas en el Botánico" que te lleva por las esculturas de mujeres que se encuentran en el jardín. Asi que caminamos hacia la primer escultura en la esquina más lejana. Mientras llegábamos allí, pensamos que el lugar es tan grande que necesitaríamos al menos dos días para seguir todos los recorridos por separado. Decidimos hacer nuestro propio recorrido por todo el parque haciendo zig zag para cubrir cada lugar.

Some of the sculptures were very eye catching, like the one below. It was sorrounded by tons of beautiful flower plants which unfortunately we did not have the chance to capture in their bloooming season. Some others sculptures did not captivate us but all in all, they make up to a nice sight seeing.

Algunas de las esculturas eran muy atractivas, como la de aquí abajo. Estaba rodeada por toneladas de hermosas plantas de flores que desafortunadamente no tuvimos la oportunidad de capturar en su temporada de floración. Alguna otras esculturas no nos cautivaron pero en general, conforman una vista agradable.

There is a Butterfly Garden where there are supposed to be flowers of every season for them to feed and reproduce. Here we started guessing maybe this was not the best trip choice due to the season, since did not find more than ten butterflies around it.
Instead I captured a shot of some nice flower which do bloom around these days. I am quite interested about learning a bit about photography and so does my partner only she actually is already doing some research on it. This one was taken by me:

Hay un Jardín de las Mariposas donde se supone que hay flores de todas las estaciones para que se alimenten y reproduzcan. Aquí empezamos a pensar que tal vez este no fue la mejor elección para la salida debido a la temporada, ya que no encocntramos más de diez mariposas alrededor.
Capturé una toma de unas flores agradables que sí florecen en estos días. Estoy bastante interesado en aprender un poco sobre fotografía y también mi pareja, solo que ella sí ya está inventigando sobre el tema. Esta fue tomada por mi:

This is the last photograph we took of the trip. These are the only mushrooms we could find and they were on the farthest spot from where we started our path. I was hoping to find some flamboyant mushroom to capture but had no luck. A better trained eye would probably have found many others.
We really enjoyed our little trip and luckily the weather granted us with a nice and shiney day. I hope we keep being this lucky on our next city tour!

Esta es la última foto que tomamos de la salida. Estas son las únicas setas que pudimos encontrar y estaban en el punto más alejado de donde empezamos nuestro recorrido. Yo esperaba encontrar alguna seta extravagante para fotografiar, pero no tuve suere. Un ojo mejor entrenado probablemente podría haber encontrado muchas más.
Realmente disfrutamos nuestro pequeño viajecito y por suerte el clima nos concedió un día agradable y soleado. Espero que mantengamos esta suerte en nuestra próxima recorrida por la ciudad!
