At the tail end of Panglao Island, a certain mall called Moadto Strip nestled. The term "Moadto" is a Bisaya word that means "go" or "to go". The mall is connected to the Modala Resort and it was built for the Modala Resort guests but it is also open for everyone!
The mall's entrance door has a massive and intricately carved wooden gate. It is so amazing to see it in person. I regret not taking a photo of it but I was able to take some video clips of it in our camera instead. But once you get there, you'll surely get astonished with its size and the artistic carving depicting the simple life in the province of Bohol.
The mall's architecture is a combination of modern and native construction materials. The roofing is made of nipa which is the usual roofing used by Boholanos too before the GIs were introduced. There are still houses with nipa today though but not that much. So it was nice to see that this mall has applied this to its design.
It is also symmetric. And a bridge connects the right and left building structures.
This wasn't our first time to come here. The first time was in 2021 when my baby was still six months old. We came here after staying a night at one of the resorts in Panglao for Matti's dedication celebration.
When we came here the first time, there were only a few restaurants opened. Now, there are already 40 commercial shops.
But I believe that the mall was indeed constructed for the guests of the Modala Resort, they can have options on where to dine and it is also becoming a tourist spot, a lot of people came here when it opened the first time and even until today.
Here are some of the restaurants available to dine in:
- Imperial Dragon Chinese Restaurant
- The Lechon Mann
- Onami Japanese Restaurant
- Esquina del Pan
- The Buzz Cafe
- Mooon Cafe
- Ocean Blue Lounge & Beach Bar
- Giligan’s
There also shops like the following:
- The Cholocate Chamber
- Lotus Storm
- ThreeSixty Pharmacy
- 7-Eleven
- Rulls Cellphones & Accessories
The presence of these shops and restaurants just next to the resort is a good strategy for the resort owner. It is good because they can give their guests options while the outsiders can also have access to these amenities.
We came here the second time with a friend who just got married. We were not able to attend his wedding in Cebu so when he told me that they will have their honeymoon in Bohol instead, I didn't hesitate to invite him and his wife for some tour around Panglao area.
I am glad that he didn't decline the offer. It has been more than a decade that we had seen each other so it was very nice catching up with him and also meeting his wife!
Also, we were not able to check the second floor of the mall on our first visit so it was great to be able to go up there and see the view from there. The second floor has the access to the Modala Resort.
Matti was enjoying his time while roaming at the second floor. There were no other guests here int his area. Matti was even about to go to the resort lobby! I stopped him and we got down to the first floor instead.
Here are some of the shots I took while at the second floor. There's a glimpse of the resort too!
I actually like the color combination of the resort and the mall. It looked classy and clean!
I was actually surprised to see almost no damage from Typhoon Odette! I guess they were just fast in fixing them and so there's no trace of that in how it looks today.
The mall is also just opposite to an amazing beach front where locals and tourists can swim, mingle, and experience the best sunset in the island. In fact, they offer several amenities to the visitors and guests such as the following:
- Cabana rentals with access to shower stalls and bathrooms
- Banig rentals
- JNP Dive Center with gears for rent and lessons for certification
- Kayak and Paddle Board rental
- Island Hopping
During this visit, we didn't get to eat at any of the restaurant because we had lunch already prior to coming. However, we had bought an icecream from The Buzzz Cafe. This was where we also dined in when we visited the mall the first time.
The Buzzz Cafe is a well known cafe slash restaurant in Bohol, it is a product of Bohol Bee Farm and they have great food in affordable pricing.
Moadto Strip Mall has set of activities to watch out for. If you are visiting here, you may take into consideration the following activities:
- Weekday Dine, Drink & Swim (Monday To Friday | 10am To 5pm)
- Zumba By The Beach (Monday, Wednesday & Friday | 4:30pm To 5:30pm)
- Holy Mass Every Sunday At Moadto Strip | 10:00am To 11:00am)
The beach front here is really gorgeous and during our visit, we talked with another visitor coming from Cebu and he talked about how beautiful the beach was. He even compared it to those resorts in Mactan where their beach shorelines are just artificial ones.
I suggested that we should come back here during the afternoon until the sunset because I had heard many beautiful things about their sunset. Also, I have an online friend who has weekly gig here where she plays violin, she serenades many night dates here too!
That's it for today, I wonder if you had been to Moadto Strip Mall? If you are planning to go to Panglao, I suggest you also check this out!
