Happy Saturday Hivers!
Who would have thought that after passing the meadow and mangrove swamps there's a beautiful island lies that locals called it "The Turtle Island".
I've heard a few times already about this turtle island. Someone told me that I can still reach the island without crossing the seawater and I said "hmmmm, you're not joking right?". And definitely he was not joking.
Finally, I was able to visit the turtle island. I planned this few months ago but I was a litlle bit skeptical to go alone due to transportation issue. But with my friend's help, I was able to go there using her motorbike. This island is located in Siaton, Negros Oriental but other says it is still part in Zamboangita, a town before Siaton. It is 1 hour drive from Dumaguete City. There are 2 ways to get to Turtle Island once you've reached to the jumpinhg-off place. The easiest way is to travel by boat but since the daily boat's operation was temporarily suspended due to nonending debate between the 2 municipalities (Zamboangita and Siaton) if who really owns the island so we left no choice but to hike around a kilometer or beyond.
I never felt bored as we hiked going to the island as the scenery makes me feel alive. There are only few people I've seen in the place but there are many goats and cows. After few meters hike we crossed in the middle of the mangrove swamps, it is a shortcut going to the island but as we almost reached to the beach we returned back to our way since it was high tide and the water was already deep. We hiked another few meters to get to the beach. As we got to the beach we saw children at the sea chasing to one another. And after a few meters hike, I saw the little hidden paradise. No one was around as we arrived in the place and I noticed that no one maintains the place. It has many garbage and messy. But the seawater was pristine. Since the place is surrounded with many trees, the childlike in me has awaken. I climbed to the tree and stayed there for a while. It is nice to be in the place like this. After we ate the food we brought, we left the little paradise.
That was my turtle island experience Hivers! See you on my next blog. Cheers!
