Let’s explore an open air museum today: The ORSA HEMBYGDSGÅRD ~ in ORSA, DALARNA County, SWEDEN. 🇸🇪 You will see old buildings, such as log cabins, hearths, barns, a salt mill and a smithy. source The buildings are from the 1600s, 1700s and 1800s except the cottage which was built in 1921. source
Come along and check out all the cute wooden buildings and details around us while we walk over the grounds 😊 during a warm summers day ☀️

With this post I’m joining in at the #Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay.
Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s photographic selection will be of 57 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 21 JULY 2024 a visit during our road trip through many countries in the summer. 😋
The Photographs in this post are taken with my #iPhone 📱
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my #adventures on this #walk to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.

More information about this museum you find here in Swedish: orsa-hembygdsgard!
In English you have the following information available for you: Visit Orsa - Hembygdsgård. and Discover Orsa attractions, the hembygdsgård.

All ready now? 😁 Ok… let’s go…

After we park our car on the parking 🅿️ we see next to the road this sign with many directions you could cycle or walk.
IMG_5378.jpeg

A little bit to the left I hear water, so I take you along to check it out. There is a river flowing just next to the parking and the hill the museum is located on. We look over the edge of a little bridge 😊
IMG_5379.jpeg

Next we wander up the long and winding path going up the hill towards the open air museum / the old buildings. We take a peek. Nobody is there. Wow 🤩 we can properly explore this site.
IMG_5383.jpeg

We see the old wooden buildings are spread around the grounds.
IMG_5384.jpeg

We walk and take in the overall view and later we will take in all the details. 😎
IMG_5388.jpeg

If you look closely the old tools 🛠️ are in front of the buildings, stalled out to see what they used in times long gone 😊
Look at how this log 🪵 building was built.
IMG_5392.jpeg

We walk further around and see even more wooden buildings.
IMG_5394.jpeg

We go to the back end of the grounds and look back.
IMG_5395.jpeg

Hubby took a sneaky photo of me 👇🏻 it gives you an idea of how large or small the buildings are. 😊
IMG_3602.jpeg

Let's look closer to each one of them.
IMG_5397.jpeg

Imagine how old they are 😳 some have open spaces where they store their tools.
IMG_5398.jpeg

I find this sign on the following building.
IMG_5399.jpeg

To my surprise the door is not locked and we can enter. We look around. It looks like a place to prepare food.
IMG_5400.jpeg

A large table on the left.
IMG_5401.jpeg

The entrance hall has #logs as #walls 🪵 between them we find moss. This is how they #insulated and made sure the logs are not drafty.
IMG_5402.jpeg

Another larger building. I think this was the smithy.
IMG_5404.jpeg

Behind it is another path you can follow towards other areas.
IMG_5405.jpeg

We continue up here on the grounds with the most buildings. The sun and blue sky is wonderful this day. The large trees 🌲 give us some protection and shade.
IMG_5406.jpeg

The buildings we see next have lots of tools and machinery stalled out around them.
IMG_5407.jpeg

The barns. Shall we take a closer look? 😊
IMG_5409.jpeg

Of course we will 😁 We see machinery that is used on the fields for grains.
IMG_5411.jpeg

We peek inside this large one. Looks like this one separates the grains from the large stems… not sure though it is a guess.
IMG_5414.jpeg

Some details 😎 as you know I love details.
IMG_5416.jpeg

Next to the large carriage we see more tools and machinery. Everything a farm back in the days would need.
IMG_5417.jpeg

We step closer and look around inside.
IMG_5418.jpeg

I love the old looks, the metal feel of the tools. 🧰
IMG_5421.jpeg

We take a look at this machine closer.
IMG_5422.jpeg

Zooming in we see straw inside… of it.
IMG_5423.jpeg

A sign with a description on it.
IMG_5425.jpeg

Zooming out again.
IMG_5426.jpeg

Some pretty heavy metal tools in here.
IMG_5427.jpeg

We look closer 🤓
IMG_5428.jpeg

Stepping outside again we walk further and see more tools used on the fields behind horses 🐎
IMG_5432.jpeg

We walk further around the buildings to really take in the views and how they were constructed.
IMG_5440.jpeg

It is unbelievable that in the height of summer we are here alone… and can wander around 😊 I so do not mind btw. Hahaha
IMG_5441.jpeg

I see this trailer with new little benches and long planks on them. The town celebrates and organises gatherings here on the grounds. These become places to sit on in the middle of the grounds in the grass.
IMG_5442.jpeg

This next building is cool. I like it.
IMG_5443.jpeg

Just look at the chimney on the roof. Beautiful craftsmanship 😎
IMG_5447.jpeg

The entrance… very cute 😊
IMG_5448.jpeg

More little buildings on the outside.
IMG_5450.jpeg

In the middle of the grounds we see the #maypole for the #midsummer #celebrations ☀️ if you want to know more about these celebrations see : Midsummer in Sweden
IMG_5451.jpeg

The top of the maypole 😎
IMG_5453.jpeg
The following website has even more #information about the celebrations around the maypole and #MIDSUMMER : Dalarna midsummer!

We walk further… I like the grass everywhere. No hard paths, just grass or bark under our feet. It grounds you fully to this place 🥰
IMG_5456.jpeg

We see in the distance the last built building. You can see the difference between the centuries.
IMG_5457.jpeg

Let’s look a bit more at the old wooden log 🪵 buildings.
IMG_5458.jpeg

We really take our time to wander around as it is a beautiful day. ☀️
IMG_5459.jpeg

Some old wheelbarrows to help on the fields.
IMG_5462.jpeg

I notice something 🤓 just look at the roofs construction! 😳
IMG_5463.jpeg

Let me show you closer by at this marvel of an #architectural feature.
IMG_5464.jpeg

If you look carefully you see tree bark under the logs 🪵 that compile the roof. Everything is renovated in the old way. Even the top, where the cut was, has tree bark on it to protect against the rain. PRETTY COOL 😎
IMG_5465.jpeg

As we walk further we notice we can enter an old barn. Were the animals were kept. 🐏🐄🐐
IMG_5467.jpeg

A view around for you 😊 look at the ceiling, the #wooden #beams.
IMG_5468.jpeg

Towards the right.
IMG_5469.jpeg

Outside we find more tools.
IMG_5473.jpeg

There are even picnic tables to sit and enjoy some food and drinks.
IMG_5475.jpeg

Another view of the entire MAYPOLE in an important location on these grounds.
IMG_5476.jpeg

I will definitely love to wander around here too especially that I like tools, I will get to see some old tools to admire.
Certainly a cool spot on a beautiful day with lots to see over for you.

!PIZZA

You would for sure. It was pretty cool to find the tools and machinery. One could imagine them being used on the fields.
A nice place… weird we were the only ones there though haha 😛
Enjoy your Friday… soon it’s weekend.
Here weirdly we have 7 degrees Celsius and the snow is melting. The snow on our roof came down too. The roads are even more icy we had sleet / ice rain for the last 2 days. A strange winter…
!PIZZA

One damn cold country it is over there, I like the cold weather but that is an extreme one lol.

Thank you kindly @ladiesofhive 😊 enjoy your Thursday

Thanks for the warm post in these days with so much cold hahaha I'm in summer memory mode to make my mind feel warmer hahaha.

I love open air museums, I feel that they invite you to be part of them in a more relaxed way than when you enter an exhibition, you can live in their artistic space and that's wonderful, even more if you have it all to yourself hahaha we are social beings but we love to enjoy spaces without people. However, it must be interesting to go to the Midsommer.

It is a paradise to take pictures, how not to be seduced by the details, the wood always gives a lot of play. I was surprised how well preserved they keep the interior of some cabins like the first one you entered. This environment is great, it calls for picnics for sure hahaha.

Very cool old buildings. Reminds me of some of the frontier museums in the states. I love old machinery. At the state fairs sometimes they have old steam engine tractors and some of the equipment running. I love the detail of the chiminey. You think of how hard life was back then... and yet they took time for such craftmanship. Took time to create a beautiful detail.
