Al llegar vimos a dos jóvenes militares; pertenecientes a La Guardia de Honor Presidencial (GHP), organismo militar encargado de la seguridad del presidente de Venezuela, montando guardia en la garita principal, al verlas las saludamos y pregunté si podía tomar fotografías (la pregunta la hice porque es una zona de seguridad por ser la antigua casa del Presidente de la República), una de las oficiales me respondió que sí y la otra, sin apartarse de su lugar de guardia, desde la distancia, pero visiblemente emocionada saludó con cariño a mi esposa quien había sido su profesora de matemáticas cuando la joven militar estudiaba educación secundaria.
El emotivo reencuentro fue muy rápido porque la exalumna de mi esposa estaba cumpliendo con su deber y no podía entretenerse, así que entramos con la alegría de haber visto a una de las hijas que la vida y la vocacion docente nos regalaron a lo largo de nuestra vida laboral activa. Yo me sentí muy bien y orgulloso de mi esposa porque alcance a oir que la muchacha le dijo a su compañera: "tan bella mi profe de matemáticas, que alegría volverla a ver."
Desde el momento que ingresamos al Centro Cultural se respiró paz y se vivió la sensación del ayer cuando escuchamos la hermosa voz de una bolerista que junto a un grupo musical brindaba un concierto a los asistentes. Según el programa de actividades culturales se trataba de una Tarde de Boleros para el disfrute de los visitantes.
En la actualidad, por ser un Centro Cultural, hay variedad de programación destinada a todo público.
Debo confesar que el ambiente es agradable y los espacios externos de la casa son confortables. Lamentablemente no pudimos entrar al interior de la vivienda porque, según información obtenida in situ, está a resguardo nuevamente por el ejecutivo nacional.
Antes de finalizar deseo dejarles una breve reseña histórica de la Casona, como popularmente se le conoce a la sede del hoy Centro Cultural Aquiles Nazoa. La Casona fue una antigua hacienda colonial, La Pastora, donde se cultivaba la caña de azúcar; la hacienda fue comprada por el Estado Venezolano a la familia Brandt en el año 1964, durante el gobierno del entonces Presidente de la República, Doctor Raúl Leoni.

Después de ser adquirida fue restaurada y ampliada por el arquitecto Andrés Enrique Betancourt Silva pasando de la casa original, a una gran mansión y se buscó principalmente un equilibrio entre la naturaleza y la edificación en sí, además de preservar el estilo colonial, manteniendo las columnas originales, los patios, las rejas ornamentales y fuentes.
Desde su remodelación y ampliación (1966) la Casona fue la vivienda principal de los Presidentes de turno de la República de Venezuela hasta el Presidente Hugo Chavéz Fría, último gobernante en usarla como residencia oficial (1999 y 2002).

Upon arrival we saw two young military officers, belonging to the Presidential Honor Guard (GHP), the military body in charge of the security of the President of Venezuela, standing guard at the main gate. Upon seeing them we greeted them and I asked if I could take photos (I asked the question because it is a security zone, being the former home of the President of the Republic). One of the officers replied yes and the other, without leaving her guard post, from a distance but visibly excited, affectionately greeted my wife, who had been her math teacher when the young military officer was studying secondary education.
The emotional reunion was very quick because my wife's former student was doing her duty and could not be entertained, so we entered with the joy of having seen one of the daughters that life and the teaching vocation gave us throughout our active working life. I felt very good and proud of my wife because I managed to hear the girl say to her colleague: "My math teacher is so beautiful, what a joy to see her again."
From the moment we entered the Cultural Center we breathed peace and experienced the feeling of yesterday when we heard the beautiful voice of a bolero singer who, together with a musical group, was giving a concert to the attendees. According to the cultural activities program, it was an Afternoon of Boleros for the enjoyment of visitors.
Currently, as it is a Cultural Center, there is a variety of programming aimed at all audiences.
I must confess that the atmosphere is pleasant and the outside spaces of the house are comfortable. Unfortunately we were not able to enter the interior of the house because, according to information obtained on site, it is once again under guard by the national executive.
Before finishing, I would like to leave you with a brief historical account of the Casona, as the headquarters of the current Aquiles Nazoa Cultural Center is popularly known. The Casona was an old colonial hacienda, La Pastora, where sugar cane was grown; the hacienda was purchased by the Venezuelan State from the Brandt family in 1964, during the government of the then President of the Republic, Dr. Raúl Leoni.

After being acquired, it was restored and expanded by the architect Andrés Enrique Betancourt Silva, turning the original house into a large mansion, and the main goal was to achieve a balance between nature and the building itself, as well as preserving the colonial style, maintaining the original columns, patios, ornamental railings and fountains.
Since its remodeling and expansion (1966), the Casona was the main residence of the Presidents of the Republic of Venezuela until President Hugo Chávez Fría, the last ruler to use it as an official residence (1999 and 2002).
