Mulberry trees are mainly planted for silk. Fruiting on mature trees has no market or economic value. According to the experts of agriculture department, this fruit is not in the list of food crops. But according to Ayurvedic doctors, this mulberry fruit has many properties. It is widely used as an anti-rheumatic, choleretic, tonic, vision and hearing enhancer. Besides, mulberry fruit is used as a mouth and throat salve, indigestion, fever and dewormer.
There was a time after 1980 that if any kind of non-governmental organization was to be established, the first condition was to plant mulberry trees. This move of the then government was mainly to give priority to silk. This rule remained until the 20th century. But now this condition does not exist, so this tree is not so visible on the village roads.
Mulberry trees are generally suitable for planting in the months of October to November. This tree bears fruit from February to March. Which then starts ripening within a month. The mulberry fruit is green at first, then light pink, red and black when fully ripe.
Mulberry garden has been planted in Rajshahi University for research work. When the mulberry fruit comes, this garden is filled with students, everyone comes to eat the fruit.The trees are both in small and large in size .
The red black fruit of mulberry is very juicy, soft, sweet and sour and delicious. Ripe mulberry fruit is beneficial for relieving constipation. Apart from this, the sour-sweet juice of the ripe fruit is wind and choleretic, antipyretic, expectorant and antipyretic. Mulberry bark and root juice are anthelmintic.
The main food of silkworms is the leaves of the mulberry tree, mulberry gardens are also planted to keep the production of the famous silk in Rajshahi, Bangladesh alive.
