Hello dear Pinmapple community and travel lovers,
all of you who love traveling know that there is often a problem when traveling: Vacation time is usually limited. So, unfortunately, you don't always have the time to go on long or far trips. For this I have my personal solution: Take two to three longer trips a year and save the rest of your vacation for short trips. This way you can experience places close to you and also have the feeling of having much more vacation time.
One of these short trips led us to the Baltic Sea the other day. More precisely to Grömitz. And exactly about this trip I would like to report to you today. I wish you a lot of fun while reading.
Why Grömitz?
At the German Baltic Sea coast there are many beautiful places to relax. Some of them I have already visited. Grömitz has often become the place of my choice. There are several reasons for this: First, Grömitz is easy to reach from my home and is only about three hours away by car. On the other hand, in Grömitz you have a wide range of activities and can choose every day between activities and relaxation.
Furthermore, since I am an absolute lover of the sea, it is not surprising that coastal resorts end up on my travel list more often.
This time, however, we had another reason that led us to Grömitz exactly on this weekend. The annual Xletics run. The Xletics runs are obstacle courses, which are offered in many places throughout Germany. Depending on your condition and strength you can choose a distance of 6km, 12km or over 18+km, in which you have to overcome between 15 and 35 obstacles. I personally didn't participate in the run, but got to diligently cheer on my friend @ogfox in his 21km run.
What can you do in and around Grömitz?
As I already wrote, Grömitz offers a good selection of activities from my point of view. The beach and the promenade in Grömitz are kilometers long and offer both directly at the water, as well as past the stores or on the dike a good opportunity for long and extended walks with fresh sea air. Here you will pass both the marina and the pier.
From the pier there is, for example, the possibility to visit one of two diving bells built on the Baltic Sea. Especially for children this is certainly a nice experience. For me personally, however, the diving bell was rather sobering and could not convince much after various dives around the world.
But if you want to experience a bit more variety of fish here, you can also head towards Fehmarn. About 45 minutes by car lie between Grömitz and the marine center in Fehmarn, where you can marvel at sharks and many other fish all year round.
To make the trip really worthwhile, you can either visit other attractions such as the butterfly farm or do a little shopping at the Bordershop Puttgarden. The Bordershop is a floating shopping center, which is located in the ferry port on Fehmarn and for me is definitely worth a visit. Especially because you can find here one or the other bargain, especially if you want to fill your bar for home again with alcoholic beverages.
If you prefer to relax a little more, you can do this directly in Grömitz. For some, the view of the sea and a nice beach chair is certainly enough here. For all spa lovers, the Grömitzer Welle also offers a beautiful wellness area with a terrace directly above the beach promenade. If you want some action besides all the relaxation, you can also go to the wave pool or the slide. If you want to explore another place in between and still do a bit of wellness, you can head to Scharbeutz. Here you will also find the Ostsee Therme directly on the beach. This offers a larger spa area than the Grömitzer Welle and has also lured me to a visit more often.
If you're heading to Scharbeutz, be sure to plan some time to both visit the beach and experience a bit of culinary delights. If you want to treat yourself to a nice meal in the evening, you can definitely enjoy it at the "ROOF" in the Bayside Hotel.
Another special restaurant is the "Wolkenlos" at Timmendorfer Strand. The "Wolkenlos" is located at the end of a jetty directly on the Baltic Sea and gives you the feeling of eating on the water. This feeling is further enhanced by a partially glazed floor.
But even if you want to stay directly in Grömitz, you won't miss out on the culinary delights. Here you just have to stroll down the promenade and find besides good fish restaurants also some other things for the culinary pleasure.
My conclusion
I have been to Grömitz more often and find it is always worth a trip. Just the sea air, the beach and the view of the water relax me shortly after arrival. I can also imagine that the Xletics run in Grömitz is one of the most beautiful, given the many obstacles directly on the beach and in the surrounding area. Let's see... maybe next year I will be persuaded at least to the short distance.
I can recommend you in any case now and then a short trip in your travel planning to include and enjoy a little time out. Whether with a lot of action or just relaxation.

Hallo liebe Pinmapple Community und Reiseliebhaber,
alle die Reisen lieben wissen, dass es beim Reisen häufig ein Problem gibt: Die Urlaubszeit ist meist begrenzt. So hat man leider nicht immer die Zeit, lange oder weite Reisen zu unternehmen. Hierfür habe ich meine persönliche Lösung: Unternehmt zwei bis drei längere Reisen im Jahr und spart Euch den Rest des Urlaubs für Kurztrips auf. So erlebt ihr zum einen auch Orte in eurer Nähe und habt außerdem das Gefühl gleich viel mehr Urlaub zu haben.
Einer dieser Kurztrips hat uns letztens an die Ostsee geführt. Genauer gesagt nach Grömitz. Und genau über diese Reise möchte ich Euch heute berichten. Ich wünsche Euch viel Spaß beim Lesen.
Warum Grömitz?
An der deutschen Ostseeküste gibt es viele schöne Orte, um sich zu entspannen. Einige hiervon habe ich bereits besucht. Grömitz ist dabei schon häufiger der Ort meiner Wahl geworden. Hierfür gibt es verschiedene Gründe: Zum einen ist Grömitz von meiner Heimat aus gut zu erreichen und liegt nur etwa drei Stunden Fahrzeit mit dem Auto entfernt. Zum anderen hat man in Grömitz eine breite Auswahl an Aktivitäten und kann sich jeden Tag zwischen Unternehmungen und Entspannung entscheiden.
Da ich ein absoluter Liebhaber des Meeres bin, ist es außerdem nicht verwunderlich, dass Küstenorte häufiger auf meiner Reiseliste landen.
Dieses Mal hatten wir aber noch einen weiteren Grund, der uns genau an diesem Wochenende nach Grömitz geführt hat. Der jährlich stattfindende Xletics Lauf. Die Xletics Läufe sind Hindernisläufe, welche in vielen Orten in ganz Deutschland angeboten werden. Je nach Kondition und Kraft kann man eine Strecke von 6km, 12km oder über 18+km wählen, in der man zwischen 15 und 35 Hindernissen überwinden muss. Ich persönlich habe zwar nicht an dem Lauf teilgenommen, durfte aber meinen Freund @ogfox fleißig bei seinem 21km Lauf anfeuern.
Was kann man in und um Grömitz unternehmen?
Wie ich bereits geschrieben habe, bietet Grömitz aus meiner Sicht eine gute Auswahl an Aktivitäten. Der Strand und die Promenade in Grömitz sind kilometerlang und bieten sowohl direkt am Wasser, als auch an den Läden vorbei oder auf dem Deich eine gute Möglichkeit für lange und ausgedehnte Spaziergänge mit frischer Seeluft. Hierbei kommt ihr sowohl am Yachthafen als auch an der Seebrücke vorbei.
Von der Seebrücke aus gibt es zum Beispiel die Möglichkeit eine von zwei an der Ostsee gebauten Tauchglocken zu besuchen. Gerade für Kinder ist dies sicherlich ein nettes Erlebnis. Für mich persönlich war die Tauchglocke allerdings eher ernüchternd und konnte nach verschiedenen Tauchgängen auf der ganzen Welt wenig überzeugen.
Wer hier ein bisschen mehr Vielfalt an Fischen erleben will, kann sich aber auch auf den Weg Richtung Fehmarn machen. Ca. 45 Minuten Autofahrt liegen zwischen Grömitz und dem Meereszentrum in Fehmarn, in dem man das ganze Jahr über Haie und viele weitere Fische bestaunen kann.
Damit sich die Fahrt so richtig lohnt, kann man entweder noch weitere Attraktionen wie zum Beispiel die Schmetterlingsfarm besuchen oder ein bisschen im Bordershop Puttgarden einkaufen. Der Bordershop ist ein schwimmendes Einkaufscenter, welches im Fährhafen auf Fehmarn liegt und für mich auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert ist. Vor Allem weil ihr hier das ein oder andere Schnäppchen finden könnt, gerade wenn ihr eure Bar für zu Hause mal wieder mit alkoholischen Getränken auffüllen wollt.
Wenn man lieber etwas mehr entspannen möchte, kann man dies direkt in Grömitz tun. Für den einen reicht hier sicherlich schon der Blick aufs Meer und ein schöner Strandkorb aus. Für alle Spa Liebhaber bietet die Grömitzer Welle aber auch einen schönen Wellness Bereich mit einer Terrasse direkt über der Strandpromenade. Wenn man neben all der Entspannung dann doch etwas Action möchte, kann man sich auch ins Wellenbad oder auf die Rutsche begeben. Wer zwischendurch mal einen anderen Ort erkunden und trotzdem ein bisschen Wellness machen möchte, kann sich auf den Weg nach Scharbeutz machen. Hier findet ihr ebenfalls direkt am Strand die Ostsee Therme. Diese bietet einen größeren Spa Bereich als die Grömitzer Welle und hat mich auch schon häufiger zu einem Besuch gelockt.
Wenn ihr Euch auf den Weg nach Scharbeutz macht, plant auf jeden Fall auch etwas Zeit ein, um sowohl den Strand zu besuchen als auch ein bisschen Kulinarik zu erleben. Wer sich abends ein schönes Essen gönnen möchte, kann dies im "ROOF" im Bayside Hotel auf jeden Fall genießen.
Ein weiteres besonderes Restaurant ist das "Wolkenlos" am Timmendorfer Strand. Das "Wolkenlos" liegt am Ende eines Stegs direkt auf der Ostsee und gibt Euch das Gefühl auf dem Wasser zu Essen. Dieses Gefühl wird durch einen teilweise verglasten Boden noch weiter verstärkt.
Aber auch wer direkt in Grömitz bleiben möchte, kommt bei der Kulinarik nicht zu kurz. Hier müsst ihr einfach nur die Promenade runter schlendern und findet neben guten Fischrestaurants auch einiges anderes für den kulinarischen Genuss.
Mein Fazit
Ich war bereits häufiger in Grömitz und finde es ist immer wieder eine Reise wert. Allein die Meerluft, der Strand und der Blick aufs Wasser entspannen mich schon kurz nach der Ankunft. Dass der Xletics Lauf in Grömitz einer der schönsten sein soll, kann ich mir bei den vielen Hindernissen direkt am Strand und in der näheren Umgebung ebenfalls vorstellen. Mal schauen... vielleicht lasse ich mich ja nächstes Jahr zumindest zu der kurzen Strecke überzeugen.
Ich kann Euch auf jeden Fall empfehlen ab und zu mal einen Kurztrip in Eure Reiseplanung mit einzubauen und eine kleine Auszeit zu genießen. Egal ob mit viel Action oder einfach nur Entspannung.
