Phanom Rung Historical Park or Phanom Rung Castle is a historical park in Thailand. Under the supervision of the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture It is one of the stone castles in the Ratchamankha group. Located in Chaloem Phra Kiat District. Approximately 77 kilometers from Buriram city.

The word Phanom Rung comes from the Khmer language. means big mountain Prasat Hin Phanom Rung is a Saiva Brahmin temple. It is a brick temple in the Koh Ker style. It has been continuously renovated for many generations. In the 18th century, King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire converted to Mahayana Buddhism. This temple was therefore converted into a Mahayana temple. In the beginning, Prasat Hin Phanom Rung was built from pink sandstone. Located on the top of Phanom Rung Mountain, 1320 feet above sea level. The name Phanom Rung means big mountain.

Prasat Hin Phanom Rung was built in the Hindu religion of Shaivism. Respect Lord Shiva as the god Shiva. Components and plan of Phanom Rung Castle It has been designed to look like a straight line. and emphasize the importance of reaching the middle point And that was the main castle which faced east. To the right of the stairs leading up to the sanctuary is a building called the Tabernacle. It is a place for preparing the body of the King before entering to pay homage to the gods or perform rituals in the religious place.

Nakarat Bridge is the walkway to the castle. Both sides are decorated with pillars with tops resembling lotus buds called Nang Riang pillars, 35 on each side, extending to Nakarat Bridge in the shape of a cross. The bridge's railing is made into the body of a five-headed serpent. It is believed that this bridge is a link between the human world and the gods.

The castle is a castle located in the middle of the inner castle courtyard. It has a square plan with a corner recess. Connected to the front of the main pagoda's components, the base of the upper and lower walls, pillars around the door, pillars along the wall, and the front are made into a monastery. It is believed that it was built by Narendrathit, the ruler of the Phanom Rung community in the 17th century.

The area around Khao Phanom Phanom Rung is large. We spent some time walking around and then sitting and resting. There are trees that provide shade around the castle. This place looks sacred. There are various stories. Sometimes it is made into a film set for various movies. which is very popular and every year There will be a tradition of going up Khao Phanom Rung .


It is a tourism festival held in Buriram Province. Most of the activities consist of a ceremony to pay respects to the gods. Sacred things residing at Khao Phanom Rung, there are many processions that are displayed at this grand festival every year. People are very interested. The event is organized both during the day and at night, beautifully and magnificently. It is considered to be another festival held here. "Khao Phanom Rung."

This is the history and some stories of Phanom Rung. The historical park is still visible and open for tourism until now. If anyone likes historical tourism, this is another interesting option.
