A Dutch Getaway

in #hive-1637722 months ago

Before I begin, I’d like to extent my heartfelt apology to @moremoney28 for doing this late. So, somewhere last year, I woke up, packed my bags and decided to explore the world. Being the hodophile that I am, nothing could make me more happier.

I’ve always postponed sharing my travel experiences with you all but today, something in me just feels like giving it a try. So first, travel buddies in check, passports in check and off we go! One thing I learnt from traveling is that make sure to enjoy the moment in as much as you want to capture everything. For me, I know how to multitask so that’s not really a problem.

Today, I want to just give you a peek into my travel experience and maybe some other time we can go deeper into the whole experience. Being the late packer that I am, I was more than happy to be on an evening flight. I wouldn’t say this was my longest flight but it wasn’t the shortest also. In about 6 to 7 hours from Ghana, we landed at the Amsterdam Airport, Schiphol. In that moment, if you had asked me if I’d choose a phd or a Dutch visa or passport you know what my answer would be hahaha.

I was greeted by the cold which I didn’t so much like but your girl was prepared for it. We had to catch a train from Amsterdam to Utrecht which we almost missed but thank God for our legs. If you didn’t know, the Netherlands is known as the country of bicycles. I must admit, I saw more bicycles in the Netherlands than I had ever seen in my whole life. It was nice seeing most people use them as their means of transportation for short distances.

Even though the place was cold, people still went about their activities like normal. Being an African, I sure was affected by the cold but that didn’t stop me from exploring. One thing that caught my eye was the greenery. There were plants everywhere and oh, let me not forget about the canals on every street. It was more like there was water on every street you walked past with boats and all of that.

Onze Lieve Vrouwe Munsterkerk (Munster Church of our Blessed Mother Mary)

The buildings were impressive as they gave the whole historic vibes. Most of the buildings in some parts of the city were made of bricks meaning these buildings had been there for a while now.You could spend the whole day staring at them and taking not of every little detail. But, what’s a trip without a party? I love parties and I sure won’t miss a party for anything. The good part of my whole trip was that, I knew most of the people at most events from my previous years of exploration so it was more of a get together.

What’s better than a party with people from all over the world? Imagine the whole world dancing to one tune just the way they know how to . No one cared if their dance moves were good or not as the main goal was to have fun. Aside all the partying and dancing, it was a great opportunity to network with like minded people from across the globe. You’d be surprised by the amazing things you learn from these people.

I wouldn’t say food was a problem for me as I was able to find some foods I loved back home in Ghana. Even though I didn’t get fufu to eat, there were some good food joints in the malls where you can go to for a decent meal. But with my busy schedules, it was always burger and what have you most of the time. Who cares about food when there’s a lot to see?

I’d like to end here with a peek into my adventures in The Netherlands but I sure would bring you more of my experience in the coming days as I can’t cover everything here. I hope you enjoyed the tour!
