Glimpses of Certaldo, a Tuscan village/Vislumbres de Certaldo, un pueblo toscano.

«Certaldo, as you may have heard, is a castle in Val d'Elsa located in our countryside, which, although small, has already been inhabited by noble men and wealthy people»

(Giovanni Boccaccio, Decameron-VI,10)

Here I am again to take you to one of the magnificent places in Tuscany where I took a little trip to visit some friends. I'm talking to you about the delightful village of Certaldo, a village located in the solitary countryside where one of the most beautiful medieval festivals in Tuscany is held (I hope to be able to go there this year, it is also famous for being the place of birth and perhaps death of Boccaccio, the famous author of the Decameron, a book set during the plague, a milestone in Italian literature. Certaldo is about an hour from where I live, it is divided into two parts, one more modern and one more medieval which is the one I took photos of, honestly it is much more beautiful than the modern part located further down the valley. This place is surrounded by greenery, especially oak trees from which it takes its name. It is a really pretty village, every corner is a true medieval jewel. Not only are the ancient stone streets beautiful to see but also the houses and the view over the valley. It has Etruscan origins but will see the maximum of its splendor during the Middle Ages. It will be the scene of clashes and will be much disputed due to its position and the natural beauty and riches that surround it. It has a very vast and troubled history and today it is one of the most beloved medieval Florentine villages. Unfortunately I wasn't able to delve into my visit as much as I could (there are many places of art and culture to see) but I enjoyed photographing the streets I passed through and Boccaccio's house. I hope you will enjoy this mini photo tour!

Beautiful photography of historical places.

The place in the first photograph is giving a sort of retro vintage Himalayan village. A nostalgia! Just the difference is that the houses in the Himalayas were made up of stones and mud.. Not bricks at all. and at the place that you shared was just a difference of 19-20.. Amazing Post. 👍
