Norway | Town Hall Square - Majestic sculptures in Oslo

in #hive-16377210 months ago

Hello friends! We continue our journey in Oslo, the capital of Norway. As you already know, we stayed in Oslo for a few days, but I have a lot of content. So I want to share the photos I took during this trip. Let's not waste any time and get right into the wonderful and fascinating streets of beautiful Oslo, a city of art and ingenious solutions.

I want to say that even a simple walk around the city can give you unforgettable memories and emotions, because here, even if you stumble upon unremarkable streets 3-4 kilometers from the city center, you can see a lot of interesting things and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and rich history of Oslo.

This bronze sculpture is located near a cozy cafe that was built back in 1857. This monument is dedicated to Johannes Brun, a famous Norwegian actor. Brun is considered one of the most important Norwegian actors of his time.

Here, in the very center of the city, near the opera house and the town hall, there are amazing huge sculptures. There are three large fountains and sculptures depicting women and children. In general, this is the Town Hall Square and it is quite difficult not to notice the town hall building, because it stands out due to its simple and geometric shapes. But the Town Hall itself is a separate kind of art, depicting historical characters who played an important role in shaping the country. There are also sculptures of "Hardworking People" around the Town Hall.

Next, we came across an unusual monument dedicated to the Norwegian King Haakon VII, who ruled the country from 1905 (in some sources from 1906) until 1957. A number of geographical objects in Antarctica are named after King Haakon and his family. Another interesting fact is his monogram H7, which became a symbol of the Norwegian Confrontation. His long reign gave him considerable moral authority as a symbol of the country's unity.

We also visited my favorite Vigeland Park again, which I already mentioned in my previous post. So I decided to take a picture of the sculptor himself. He is one of the most prominent sculptors in the country. By the way, he was born in Mandal in 1869 and I was lucky enough to visit this city, which is one of my favorite. The dominant themes in his work were death and the relationship between a man and a woman.

And the last one on our list is Christian Krohg. He was a prominent Norwegian writer and artist who specialized in realism. He was fascinated by creating images of the daily life of local fishermen and sailors, and his most famous and important painting is "The Fight for Existence," which depicts the moment of distributing bread to the poor.

We had such a walk around the city, which we are just delighted with. The best kind of travel for me is walking around the city and visiting museums and historical sites. It's so interesting to dive into the history of a particular city and country, learn something new and be fascinated by it. Norway is not only about beautiful landscapes, fjords and snowy mountains, but also about historical events and a rich history that is so appreciated by all the locals. So, if I have a choice between a resort in a five-star hotel and a trip to a small town with a lot of museums and historical sites, I will choose the latter. And I'm waiting for your thoughts on this post in the comments. I would be very interested to know if there are like-minded people among my readers. Thank you for your attention, and I wish you a good day. See you soon, friends! Bye!
