Oslo - The Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park | The park where children's creative ideas come to life

in #hive-16377210 months ago

Hello, friends! Recently as you know we visited the capital of Norway - Oslo, where we will be here for a few days, but this city will conquer your heart even in such a short period of time! One of the places we planned to visit was this wonderful park with sculptures. At first look, it's nothing remarkable, but let's immerse ourselves in the history of this place.

At the entrance to the park, you can see a sign with a brief summary. It provides information about the park in two languages: English and Norwegian. And it is here that we learn that this park belongs to the Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra. "The Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park was created by children for children," the inscription reads, "The park consists of twelve sculptures designed by students from all over the country. The project was created as a regional competition."

This information is very useful for familiarization and I recommend reading it before entering the park. It also states that the park was opened by the princess on May 19, 2016, so the park is very new, and I think it will be filled with interesting sculptures.

Touristic Trick 😜

I also want to tell you about the location of this wonderful park. It is located three minutes from the Royal Palace. So keep in mind that you can immediately see both the palace and the princess park. For tourists staying for a short time in Oslo, this is a very good option.

Let's take a closer look at the sign. Here we also see photos with a short description. It shows the original drawings of the contestants, their title, who made them, and the city of origin. For example, the first photo, "Geometric Fox," was made by Sofia Sollid Jertsen in 2016. At the time, the pupil was in the 6th grade and lived in Troms, in the north of Norway. All twelve sculptures have such inscriptions.

So, let's get started! The first one, as you might have guessed, was the Geometric Fox. The sculpture is quite bright and attractive. For children visiting this park, it's a real treat to look at the fox, climb on top of it and smile sincerely into the lens of their parents' camera.

The next sculpture is "Rabbit in Distress" I think the title is exactly right for this sculpture! You can really see the childlike features in these chaotic brushstrokes.

The next and my favorite sculpture is an arms outstretched with a tree. Everyone can see their own meaning, but I saw "hope". Due to global climate issues, this sculpture emphasizes awareness and love for the environment. I think the perfect title for this sculpture is "It's all in your hands". Because, who else but us?

Next, we move on to a composition of blue cubes called "Strange Bench". Yes, you can combine beauty with utility and use the idea to improve the city. Why not?

Here, a bronze worm is peeking out of the ground. As I mentioned, the park is quite new and will be updated with new sculptures, as it happened with this worm. It was created in 2018, which is two years after the park was opened.

Next was this amazing creature consisting of legs and a mouth. And the name of this sculpture is no less amazing: "Mouth Bone". What can I say, the rich imagination of children is capable of great things, and this sculpture is a vivid example of this.

A little further away there is the "Rainbow Arch" and "Faceless Man". The sculptures are quite interesting and very popular with young visitors. Especially this green bird, which children love to look at.

The last three sculptures are "Tool", "Mitt mot" and "Pencil". To be honest, in "Tool" I saw a crochet hook decorated with a butterfly wing. Maybe it's really like that? But "Mitt mot" - it seemed to me like a strange person who, despite the difficulties, still smiles, and wide open eyes speak of observation. And the last sculpture "Pencil", in my opinion, is about solving complex problems. And no matter how thorny and "twisted" the path may be, there is always a solution and an end result.

Very interesting sculptures.
Although some look creepy. I imagine myself walking through that park, at night, without street lights, while the Aurora Polaris is visible in the sky. Oops 😀

Hahaha I didn't think in this way you are right it might be scary 😂

Wooooow, I keep getting to know beautiful places from all over the world thanks to hivers who share their experiences. This park is the best, very good idea to recreate the children's drawings. The imagination and ingenuity overflows in all of them. I loved the one with the mouth and the one with the pencil. Thanks for sharing. Best regards

I agree with you totally, Pinmapple is really good community. Let me tell you sometimes even I check pinmapple where to go instead of another popular trip advisor web sites 🤞

What a good way in showcasing the talents of these wonderful students. Although I find the worm and mouth with a legs a little bit creepy hahaha

It is a source of pride that the students who created these drawings have their names mentioned in such a park at such a young age. I agree with you the mouth with legs looks really scary 👀

Very nice place with some cute and unique statues. Winter seems to have started and I love the dry leaves in winter, quite an interesting sight.

Dry leaves and cold air make for a really beautiful visual environment🍂

There are some really nice sculptures there, love it!

Yes, they are really beautiful, soon I will share a post about the sculptures I came across while walking the streets of Oslo. Stay tuned ! 🤞

Cool! Will keep an ehe out 👌

What a beautiful place!! Those sculptures are great! I don’t know if I have only one that impressed me the most. Maybe that thing with the eyes, nose and mouth in different places. But my favorites are the geometric Fox Metamask style, and the man with the puppet in the hand.

Hahaha until you mentioned about Metamask style I didn't think in that way, you're right I also like Fox so much it was very beautiful. 🦊

@choogirl Thank you for considering me worthy of being on the list. 🍍💃

I love this kind of places that at first don't say a lot but after you walk for a bit you get surprised with lots of cool things as these sculptures. I love all the details each one comes up with but the one with the hand and the tree is by far my favourite. It seems like a great way to show that nature and the world in general are in our hands and should be more careful respecting them rather than polluting, illegally cutting down trees, and a lot more...

Your inference is very correct. I think learning new details as we explore is the factor that makes the things we travel and see meaningful...
