Now that we have been in the Dominican Republic for over 3 months, we have decided to go back to Playa del Carmen-Mexico. In retrospect, the city was perfect for us, we had a nice apartment, a fantastic beach in front of the door, you could meet great people, and of course my lovely Fleamarket!
Of course, before we decided to go back to Mexico, we also considered other countries, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama...but not the easiest time to travel, you always have to look, what does you need in this country, can I get in here without being vaccinated? PCR test, Double booster, quarantine? 😑And everything is constantly changing, it's annoying! In Mexico, we know what we have, and you can stay in the country for 180 days! Of course, constant traveling and flying cost a lot of money in the long run. In Playa, we felt a little bit at home!
Playa is very touristy and all the sellers who only want your money are a bit annoying, but that way you get everything you need. In the Dominican Republic, you have looked in vain for good toothpaste or a small organic shop. In Playa you have everything on your doorstep, that makes a big difference!
In the first 6 months I also built up a small customer base and did the hair of the other emigrants. That actually went down quite well, especially among the people who didn't speak Spanish and didn't dare go to the hairdresser. I didn't have this extra income in the Dominican Republic, I have to say I didn't think it was so expensive here, especially the food prices are very high ! I wonder how the locals do it?! Not even fruits and vegetables are particularly cheap.
But in this post I wanted to tell you about our great itinerary, which is a bit long, very long! We are leaving the Dominican Republic in about 2 weeks. We are just north in Sosua but fly out of Punta Cana which is on the east of the island. For us that means a bus trip of hours with 3 changes, yeah. If my suitcase wasn't so heavy and if we didn't have to change trains 3 times, I wouldn't find it bad at all! The last time we took the bus here, it was actually quite chilled, we grabbed the last row in the back and lay down and watched the Netflix series, or read a little bit!
But it gets even better the next day we don't fly to Mexico with 1 plane, no, not with 2 either, but with 3 different planes we go back to Mexico! I still don't understand how 3 different planes can be cheaper than 1 ??!
Is it because they still want to get the planes full or why is that? We also fly the full detour via Colombia, Panama, and then Mexico...I don't understand! Nevertheless, you save 350 euros on this flight. There is no direct flight anyway, but it doesn't make any sense to me! The flight with only 1 transfer, which would be in the USA or Bogata (also a detour) would be much more expensive.
But well, I don't want to complain, there worse things and I'm into adventure travel... 😄👍🏻👍🏻and I'm really looking forward to Playa del Carmen💗💗
I will report how the trip was and whether we arrived safely in Mexico!
See you next time
