Why visit the Palace?🌳🏃‍♂️ / Por que visitar el Palacio??🙇‍♂️👩‍🦯

This is simply Portuguese history, despite the fact that the space belonged for several generations to a very rich English family that made its wealth from the textile market, today it is part of the Portuguese culture and there are many interesting things to learn, one of the The stories that most caught my attention about the palace is that in World War II a rich English family had come to visit the (Cooks) at a dinner in 1942, when the English visitors were preparing to return to England, they were shot down by a German plane. , AMAZING, RIGHT?😲🤯

history of the palace🌳🏃‍♂️ / Historia del palacio🙇‍♂️👩‍🦯

It all begins in the year 1856, which was when the wealthy Francis Cook family bought the land for the construction of the palace, but before buying the land, a chapel dating from the 15th century had already been built, therefore it is a property with more than 500 years of history! Not only did Francis build this beautiful and luxurious palace as a nice vacation spot, but he also built beautiful gardens around it.🤴👸

In the year 1601 the property with more than 140 hectares belonged to the Mello e Castro family, later in the year 1718 it was acquired by Caetano de Mello who was the vice-king of India! in 1755 portugal witnessed a natural catastrophe and the earthquake destroyed all the property😮🤑

In 1790, after the earthquake, Gerard de Visme rented the country house and built the first neo-Gothic palace on the famous chapel, later in 1795 William Beckford rented and lived in the property during his second stay in Portugal, I don't know why but any Englishman who steps on the ground Portuguese has just bought a property. Our landscape and climate are enviable in Europe!🤩😮

The architect who was commissioned to build this beautiful palace was "James Knowles" who built the garden on the ruins of the palace of the former owner "Gerard Visme" one of the characters who visited the palace was the great poet "Lord Byron" who commented to the Cook family who had never visited a palace as beautiful as that one and which at the same time inspired him to write one of his poems!📚🚩🏛

Curiosities🌳🏃‍♂️ / Curiosidades🙇‍♂️👩‍🦯

The palace is full of history and mystery and one of them is that at one of the Cook family dinners they invited a very famous German singer from the 30s and 40s and who had a good relationship with one of the German generals. ! The intention of this invitation was to infiltrate false information about warlike movements "of England" in short to deceive Germany! Lord Cook received several medals from the Allies for disposing of his properties to be used as makeshift airports for the English.😲🤓👨

A few years after the end of the war, the Portuguese government acquired the property and in 1978 it was declared a "property of public interest" and later in 1995 it was declared WORLD HERITAGE by UNESCO, it was literally the first neo-Gothic structure built in Portugal And it is another reason to visit it.😮⛲📚

Monserrate Chapel🌳🏃‍♂️ / Capilla Moserrate🙇‍♂️👩‍🦯

This was the first construction that was made on the property, it is a chapel dedicated to Mr. Moserrate, at that point the property belonged to the hospital "de todos os santos de Lisboa" it was never restored or destroyed, unlike the Cook family The use to decorate the landscape dates from 1540🤩😮

I really love the place you shared. ♥️ A beautiful palace indeed. The details of its designs really amazed me and the nature that surrounds it really makes me more feel excited to be in that place very soon. ♥️

Wow,such a lobely palace 😍.I'd never visited a palace yet or seen a real palace.

Wow, that palace is really amusing. I can say the structure has a combination of Spanish style and including the other palaces in European nations. I know you have a beautiful tropical climate!
