Hello friends, this is not the first time I have visited this beautiful village near Viterbo but each time it is always something magical.
Civita di Bagnoregio is a somewhat surreal and fantastic place that is situated on the waist of a large mountain made entirely of tuff and can only be reached by footbridge from where you can see a beautiful 360° panorama of practically the whole of the Lazio region.
It has been nicknamed the 'dying city' for several years now due to the fact that the constant erosion of the tufa rock is destroying it somewhat and will in time make it disappear.
That's why it has become a very popular destination for foreign tourists, but also for Italians themselves. It's a beautiful village that is located practically halfway between Orvieto and Lake Bolsena, and it seems to have Etruscan origins.
When you walk into this village and enter it, it seems as if time has stood still. Inside, you can see the Renaissance palaces that stand in the small streets with the typical local houses.
There is also a legend that Saint Francis, while staying here in Civita, cured a young man by saving him from death. This young man became brother Bonaventure of Bagnoregio because once saved by the Saint he would become a servant of God.
In practice, this village has become a tourist attraction, with restaurants, trattorias and bars, as well as bed and breakfasts and local craft shops available to tourists.
To access the village via the bridge you have to pay €5. To avoid paying, I recommend going in the evening because access is practically free after a certain hour.
Instead of parking the car there is a pay car park a little under the bridge with a shuttle that will take you to the entrance of the bridge because to reach it on foot you have to work hard because there is a very steep slope I have warned you!
