A Day in the Enchanted Forest: Our Trip to Bernau Zauberwald, Germany

Hello friends. Do you know where we are today? We’ve come to the Enchanted Forest. In German it’s called "Zauberwald" which sounds pretty interesting. The Zauberwald Trail stretches for 2.5 kilometers along the enchanting high moorland of the Taubenmoos bog, located in the Oberlehen district of Bernau. We arrived at the park and there’s a small building nearby that looks like an observation tower for children to climb. A woman greeted us with a basket in her hand. At first I thought she was Little Red Riding Hood, but this is a different Red Riding Hood. She has a red hood and a basket of buns and she also has blue eyes. Quite impressive.

There are dragonflies and plants here. In fact this place is a dried-up marshland with several walking trails. You can choose one of the large or small trails to explore these dried-up bogs. What a beautiful place. We are greeted by a forest gnome holding a sign that says Zauberwald. Welcome to the Enchanted Forest. The forest paths are covered with wood chips, a stream flows below and another tiny gnome welcomes us. Everything really starts to feel magical. We are in the Enchanted Forest, filled with magical gnomes. It’s a popular tourist spot and although we didn’t know, it’s quite crowded. There’s a tree filled with obstacles. Wow! It’s really fun and interesting.

Afterward we walked across a bridge and the path is beautiful. To be honest we got a bit lost among these branches. And then we met that wizard. Do you think he’ll grant wishes? Let’s make a wish. Oh, my wish is for everyone to be healthy and for the sky above us to be filled with peace. That’s the most important thing. Health is the most valuable thing in life. Now all that’s left is to pluck a hair from his beard and wait for my wish to come true.

It’s so enjoyable to walk along these paths and listen to the birds sing. The weather is perfect. Not too hot, not too cold, just right. There’s a large and a small route. We took the small tour, which is about 2.5 kilometers long. The tree roots are so beautiful and we saw some sculptures on the side. Wooden hearts have been carved and walking on this wooden path is so interesting. It feels completely different from walking on dirt or stones.

Walking on these wooden paths is wonderful. There are different logs painted by children everywhere. It reminds me of the upcoming New Year. Different figures are placed throughout the forest. One of them says "Sophia" so I guess Sophia painted it. On the other side there’s another gnome. The kids have done a fantastic job. They’re being encouraged to create things with their hands instead of spending time in front of a computer. You can’t stop creativity. You just need to guide it and they will find their own way.

Another tree was painted by someone named "Leonie" We continued on our way and approached the water wheel. The water was icy cold. It was directed by a wooden channel and there was a bench placed nearby for resting. The water wheel was turning, powered by the water's force. Everything was functioning working smoothly. If you attached a generator to this wheel, you could even generate energy. There was also a staircase carved from a log here. The steps need to be climbed carefully since they were a bit wet.

We came to a slight slope and once again, there were carved logs along the sides of the path. Here we saw a deer and a giant owl. The owl bid us farewell with its suspicious gaze. Everywhere animal figures were placed on top of the logs. This means that both children and adults can meet the animals living in this enchanted forest. There’s a rabbit figure and on the left, a large stag with antlers. And on the other side, a beautiful goat stands. These are the animals that live in the forest.

We also found plenty of mushrooms here, in various kinds. 😊 If you live nearby, you should definitely visit this place. It’s truly extraordinary. We were walking almost a meter above the ground and below, there were blackcurrants. We must not have eaten blackcurrants in a long time because we initially thought they were blueberries. The wooden platforms are quite thick and weather-resistant. The surroundings are amazing, mountains, meadows and a peaceful silence. There are so many flowers that you can pick wild herbs, prepare your own tea and get your vitamins during the winter.

Further ahead there was a hunter's cabin. A few steps led to the upper floor and the cabin had windows. There was a sign here showing which mountains could be seen. We could see the mountains in the distance and the sign displayed the names of these mountains. The crickets were chirping since it was the second half of the day. We were still walking. The sun had moved behind the clouds and the weather was neither hot nor cold, perfect for a hike. Then we found some blackberries, picked a few and continued on our way. The taste of blackberries is the taste of summer. The blackberries here are small, but they taste amazing. Sweet and flavorful, very delicious. That was our day. We walked through magical places and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I hope you enjoyed it too.
