I find it difficult to eat rice from a plate using chopsticks.
Using chopsticks to eat rice from a plate can indeed be a bit tricky. Even with a lot of practice, I never get the hang of it!
Except in Dim Sum restaurants, I almost always have to ask for a rice bowl in Chinese restaurants (but not in Japanese restaurants!) because they don't give you one!
Using a bowl can make it much easier to eat rice with chopsticks.
The bowl allows you to bring the food closer to your mouth and gives you better control over the rice. It also makes it easier to scoop up a small clump of rice with your chopsticks. This traditional method is especially common in East Asian cultures.
So I researched the web and found that I am not the only one!
I ate in Yang Kee Dumpling. And this is not my first time!
The food is just top-notch in this restaurant. Yang Kee Dumpling in Davis, California, is a spot that hits the mark with a wide variety of dumplings. They're best known for their soup dumplings, pan-fried pork buns, and shrimp loofah soup dumplings. Besides dumplings, they also whip up tasty bao (steamed buns), noodle soups, fried rice, and sautéed dishes.
Although I was alone
I ordered dishes from the menu with the intention of taking some to go. So I am ensured that I can enjoy the deliciousness later. Plus, it saves me time and effort when I know I will craving that same great meal again.
Salt Pepper Fish Filets 椒盐鱼片
Braised Beef Brisket with Rice 红烧牛腩饭
Okay, so I ordered a rice plate.
Of course, the dish came on a plate! I had to ask the waiter to bring me a bowl, which he immediately did. Looking around the restaurant, all who ordered a rice plate were eating them from the plate. I just couldn't do it without creating a mess!
It was perfection!
The Salt Pepper Fish Filets were crispy and golden fried with chilies, onions, and a quite flavorful seasoning. I was so satisfied with the way the food was cooked.
The Braised Beef Brisket with Rice was to die for!
The cut of beef is a bit of a hidden gem. It's totally different from the more common flank steak. "Rough" flank has more connective tissue and marbling, making it perfect for slow cooking. And the dish was tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef.
I thought of introducing some friends to this delicious cut of meat. Maybe I could invite them for a meal at this and showcase a dish featuring rough flank.
Afterall, sharing good food is the best way to spread the love. 🍲
