In today's post, I want to tell you about my short vacation on the island of Pantelleria. I think it's quite well-known worldwide because it's a popular tourist destination, and I've heard that several foreign celebrities also own homes there.
I arrived on this island for a few days to meet up with my dear friend whom I had met several years ago at a resort. We've always kept in touch, but sometimes you need to move from virtual contacts to real ones, so as soon as I found a cheap flight, I headed off.
My friend hosted me in her countryside house, as you can see from the photos, completely made of volcanic lava stones. Yes, because you have to understand that Pantelleria is located right on the tip of a volcano, and truth be told, it's an island that is closer to Tunisia than to Sicily.
As I mentioned in the title, you immediately realize it's an island where the volcanic activity is palpable; you can even sense a hint of ash in the air. However, as you can see, the house was decorated very rustically, and my friend wanted to preserve the local traditions. If you observed closely from the photos, she even created a pool, which actually is fed by a source of hot water, because it's volcanic in origin, hence free thermal water.
The highest point on Pantelleria is Mount Grande, reaching about 800 meters above sea level. I must say the climate here is always quite pleasant and warm, but the downside is there's always a strong wind; in fact, she told me these islands are also called "daughters of the wind."
I, somewhat foolishly, went in search of a beach. Here, there are very wild places, so they're not equipped. However, that's actually what I was looking for, but instead, I found only volcanic rock. There are no real beaches; these beautiful rocks form natural pools where I naturally relaxed, watching the beautiful sunset.
You know, I don't really like overly touristy places. Fortunately, my friend's house is in an area of the island that's a bit off the beaten path, so I was very relaxed and many times completely alone.
Another interesting thing is that I went fig picking. It's a fruit I really love and usually eat a lot of. I discovered that this island is full of these delicious fruits, although you have to be careful not to eat too many because then you'll have bathroom problems.
I hope you enjoyed the photos I shared, and I hope you can visit this beautiful island. My advice is to try to detach from the more touristy spots; there are plenty, and you'll enjoy it much more.
