Hungary. The palace, which was built for almost 100 years - Festetic

in #hive-1637722 years ago

In the west of Hungary, there is a well-known tourist destination in the form of Lake Balaton. And if you found yourself here, I want to share an interesting place nearby that will attract your attention and diversify your vacation near the reservoir. This place is the Festetic Palace, which is located in the centre of Keszthely Park, which occupies the northwestern part of the lake.

This palace was built in the middle of the 18th century, copying the style of French castles. The style of the palace is baroque. This is indicated by the variety of decoration of the facade, as well as the interior. Unfortunately, we did not have time to get inside, so I will tell you more about the history of the palace.

A rather romantic park is located around the palace, where you can calmly shoot all kinds of love stories. This entire complex, as I have already said, appeared in the middle of the 18th century and took about a century to build. Construction began in 1745, and it got its present appearance in 1880. All this was built with the money of one of the richest families in Hungary - Festetich. In the end, the palace became one of the best in the country not only because of its exterior and interior but also because of its large collection of various works of art.

By the way, the Festetich family were very famous patrons. They tried to develop education and art, and also became the people who financed the creation of a gymnasium in this city, the first agricultural school in Europe, a hospital, a pharmacy, etc. That is, they tried to create more useful institutions around them, because they had the financial opportunity to do so.

Given that the family that founded and owned this palace has been preserved to this day in perfect condition because a large amount of money was allocated for its support. In addition, the castle was lucky and was not damaged during the Second World War. Representatives of this family have not lived there for a long time, they left the palace in 1944, however, even today the descendants of the Festetich family periodically visit the palace to see its condition and help in case of something.

First of all, the palace was supposed to have 34 rooms, but during construction, the project was repeatedly changed and additional funds were invested, so 101 rooms can be counted there. However, as written on the Internet, only 18 bedrooms are available for tourists.

By the way, a rather large and valuable library is kept here - more than 80 thousand books! One of the most valuable copies is the sheet music with the autograph of the famous Austrian composer Haydn.

I'm sorry that I didn't have time to get inside, but if you were there, please share the photos!

The exact coordinates of the palace - 46.77112, 17.24188
