Hello everyone! I am happy to be able to share with you a post that I had pending for several months. In September I had the opportunity to take a family trip to one of the most popular destinations in my country: La Colonia Tovar. Perhaps people who are not Venezuelan, think of our country as a paradisiacal country with many beaches, the Angel Falls and the Tepuyes, but it turns out that our country has a magnificent geographical diversity that makes us enjoy beaches, deserts, snow, and a delicious climate in certain parts of our country.
To put it in context, Colonia Tovar is a location in the State of Aragua, founded in 1843 by German settlers who came to Venezuelan lands to undertake a project proposed by the German explorer, Alexander von Humboldt, in which priority would be given to agricultural growth in an area of Aragua where the cold climate and soil could be similar to the German climate. This area is currently a great producer of fruits and vegetables that are distributed throughout the central region of Venezuela.
¡Hola a todos! Estoy feliz de poder compartir con ustedes una publicación que tenía pendiente desde hace varios meses. En el mes de septiembre tuve la oportunidad de realizar un viaje en familia hacia uno de los destinos más populares de mi país: La Colonia Tovar. Tal vez las personas que no son venezolanas, piensan en nuestro país como un país paradisiaco con muchas playas, el salto ángel y los Tepuyes, pero resulta que nuestro país cuenta con una diversidad geográfica magnífica que nos hace disfrutar de playas, desiertos, nieve y un clima delicioso en ciertos puntos de nuestro país.
Para ponerlos en contexto, la Colonia Tovar es una locación que queda en el Estado Aragua, fue fundada en el año 1843 por colonos alemanes que llegaron a tierras venezolanas para emprender un proyecto propuesto por el explorador alemán, Alexander von Humboldt, en el que se daría prioridad al crecimiento agrícola en una zona aragueña en la que el clima frío y el suelo podría asemejarse al clima alemán. Esta zona, actualmente, es una gran productora de frutas y hortalizas que son distribuidas en toda la Región central de Venezuela.
TOUR A LA COLONIA TOVAR
This whole plan started because my aunt, my dad's brother's wife, was the one who insistently asked me to get a tour to visit the beautiful town. Here in Valencia, it is quite common for travel agencies to organize tours from here to any nearby tourist destination. One day on Instagram, I got a story from a travel agency that I had traveled with before and I saw that they had a date to travel to the Colonia, I contacted them and we immediately arranged the trip. They already knew me and where I lived, so on September 18 at 5:30 am they picked me and my family up. My dad, my sister, my nephew, and my uncles and aunts went on the trip.
During the first hour of the trip, we took the opportunity to rest a little, and when we arrived in the city of La Victoria the bochinche began, the guides began to make singing games and various recreational activities to keep us awake and at 8:00 am we arrived at the first point, a beautiful viewpoint that marks the beginning of the climb to Colonia Tovar, we were a while and took the opportunity to take pictures of the beautiful scenery.
Todo este plan comenzó porque mi tía, la esposa del hermano de mi papá, fue quien me pidió insistentemente que consiguiéramos un tour para visitar el hermoso poblado. Acá en Valencia es bastante común que salgan tours organizados por agencias de viaje desde acá hasta cualquier destino turístico cercano. Un día en Instagram, conseguí una historia de una agencia de viaje con la que ya había viajado antes y vi que tenían una fecha para viajar a la Colonia, me comuniqué con ellos y en seguida cuadramos el viaje. Ellos ya me conocían y sabían dónde vivía, así que el 18 de septiembre a las 5:30 am pasaron por mi y familia. Al viaje fuimos mi papá, mi hermana, mi sobrino y mis tíos.
Durante la primera hora de viaje aprovechamos de descansar un poco, y cuando llegamos a la ciudad de La Victoria empezó el bochinche, los guías empezaron a hacer juegos de canto y varias actividades recreativas para mantenernos despiertos y a las 8:00 am llegamos al primer punto, un mirador hermosísimo que marca el inicio de la subida hacia la Colonia Tovar, estuvimos un rato y aprovechamos de hacer fotos al hermoso paisaje.

Thirty minutes later we arrived, they parked the bus in a parking lot where some rustic people we had hired to do a tour around the town were waiting for us, while they located all the people who were going on the tour, we took the opportunity to take pictures and stretch our legs.
Treinta minutos después habíamos llegado, estacionaron el autobús en un estacionamiento en el que nos esperaban unos rústicos que habíamos contratado para hacer un paseo por todo el pueblo, mientras ubicaban a todas las personas que se iban al tour, nosotros aprovechamos de tomarnos fotos y estirar las piernas.

The @latituexperiences team always spoils us, while the other travelers were in two rustic vehicles that fit 12 people approximately, my whole family and I got what they called the VIP. We rode in a Jeep that had no doors and we drove at high speed through the town, and it was really quite funny, especially because my uncle wanted to be handsome and sat in the front, but he got the worst part because he didn't know where to stand. The trip consisted of visits to emblematic sites of the town and our driver was also our guide, he was telling us things about the sites, among these, the altitude of the town above sea level, the year of foundation, and other historical data.
El equipo de @latituexperiences siempre nos consiente, mientras los otros viajeros estaban en dos rústicos en los que cabían 12 personas aproximadamente, a mi familia entera y a mí nos tocó lo que llamaron ellos, el VIP. Nos montamos en un Jeep que no tenía puertas y andábamos a alta velocidad por todo el pueblo, y realmente era bastante divertido, sobre todo porque mi tío se la quería dar de guapo y se sentó en la parte de adelante, pero le tocó la peor parte, porque no sabía de donde aguantarse. El viaje consistió de visitas a sitios emblemáticos del pueblo y nuestro conductor también era nuestro guía, nos iba contando cosas acerca de los sitios, entre estas, la altitud del pueble sobre el nivel del mar, el año de fundación y otros datos históricos.

Then we continued on to my favorite part: food and drink. They took us to a liquor factory and also gave us a taste, then we passed by a brewery, and to finish the trip, we stopped at a sausage factory. From each of these stops I will make you a different post because it is too much material, in it I will focus only on the food of the place, I assure you that you will also enjoy that post.
Luego continuamos por mi parte favorita: comida y bebida. Nos llevaron a una fábrica de licores y también nos dieron a probar, luego pasamos por una fábrica de cervezas y para finalizar el viaje, nos paramos en una fábrica de salchichas. De cada una de estas paradas les haré una publicación distinta porque es demasiado material, en ella me enfocaré únicamente en la comida del lugar, les aseguro que también disfrutarán de esa publicación.

One of the points to visit was a wonderful thing: The hydrangea garden. This little piece of land made me feel like I was somewhere out of a fairy tale. We thought it would be more relaxed and my dad had to lend his jacket to Alejandro who was shivering from the cold, poor guy.
Thousands of hydrangeas were scattered around the place, there is something impressive that I liked about the place and that is that no tourist could pluck a single petal of a hydrangea, the reason is quite simple: if all the tourists passing by would take a flower there would never be flowers, then the locals ask you to please, do not pluck a single flower of the ones you see in the whole place, including the village.
Uno de los puntos a visitar, fue una cosa maravillosa: El jardín de hortensias. Este pedacito de tierra me hizo sentir que estaba en algún lugar de cuentos de hadas. Eso sía, hacía mucho frío en el lugar, pensamos que sería más relajado y mi papá tuvo que prestarle su chaqueta a Alejandro que estaba tiritando de frío el pobre.
Miles de hortensias estaban repartidas por el lugar, hay algo impresionante que me gustó del lugar y es que ningún turista podía arrancar ni un solo pétalo de una hortensia, la razón es bastante sencilla: si todos los turistas que pasan por allí se llevaran una flor nunca habría flores, entonces los lugareños te piden que por favor, no arranquen ni una sola flor de las que ven en todo el lugar, inluyendo el pueblo.

If you want flowers you can buy them, they are quite inexpensive. I didn't buy them because I didn't want to carry them, but in the end, I had a bouquet of rosemary that my aunt bought and gave me half of it and we walked around the Colonia with it.
Si quieren flores las pueden comprar, son bastante económicas. Yo no compré porque no quería cargar con eso, pero al final andaba con un ramo de Romero que compró mi tía y que me dió la mitad y andabamos por toda la Colonia rodando con esta.

The whole place is a good place to take pictures, I would have liked to add all the pictures I took, but there were so many, so I set aside the ones I considered the best for you.
After walking through the points I mentioned, we were dropped off at a central point, near the center of Colonia Tovar, where the church and all the commercial parts of town are located. It was already around noon, so we went for lunch and this part will also be for a future post. When we finished eating we went to buy fruits and some other little things to take back to our homes and continue touring the place.
What I love about Colonia Tovar is the architecture, you would never think that there is a little piece of Germany in Venezuela and after so much time, almost 200 years, it is still the same, in fact, our guide was telling us that all the settlers still keep their German surnames and that for many years they were closed to the rest of the country, they did not agree to cross with people from outside, but you know what happens when there is much endemic interbreeding, children with diseases begin to be born, and after the '60s, if I am not mistaken, they began to leave the village and to marry Venezuelans. Although we still see people in the place phenotypically very blond, as soon as they speak they know they are Venezuelans. Many have already mestizos, like our guide who has a father who was not born in the colony.
Todo el sitio es un buen lugar para tomarse fotografías, habría querido agregar todas fotos que realicé, pero fueron muchísimas, así que aparté las que consideré las mejores para ustedes.
Luego de pasear por los puntos que les mencioné, nos dejaron en un punto céntrico, cerca del centro de la colonia Tovar, en la que se encuentra la iglesia y toda la parte comercial del pueblo. Ya era alrededor de mediodía, así que fuimos a comer y esta parte también será para una próxima publicación. Al terminar de comer fuimos a comprar frutas y algunas otras cositas para llevar a nuestros hogares y seguir recorriendo el sitio.
Lo que me encanta de la Colonia Tovar es la arquitectura, jamás pensarían que hay un pedacito de Alemania en Venezuela y después de tanto tiempo, casi 200 años, se conserve igual, de hecho, nuestro guía nos estuvo comentando que todos los colonieros aún conservan los apellidos alemanes, y que por muchos años estuvieron cerrados hacia el resto del país, no estaban de acuerdo en cruzarse con personas de afuera, pero ya sabrán lo que pasa cuando hay muchos entrecruzamientos endémicos, comienzan a nacer niños con enfermedades, y después de los años 60, si no me equivoco, empezaron ya a salir del pueblo y a casarse con venezolanos. Aunque aún vemos personas en el lugar fenotípicamente muy rubias, en cuanto hablan saben que son venezolanos. Muchos ya son mestizos, como nuestro guía que tiene un papá que no nació en la Colonia.

At 2:30 pm we had to be in the parking lot where the bus that would take us back to our destination was, but before continuing we had to make a mandatory stop at a place called Chocolatico where there is a great sale of chocolates, but I wanted to go to eat Strawberries with cream, which they say are the best in Venezuela, I will give you my opinion on the subject.
We arrived and it started to drizzle, it was more like dew than rain. The amount of mist was impressive, but the best thing: a bonfire to make roasted marshmallows they were handing out on site. Pictured here is my nephew and sister roasting marshmallows, this is quite the technique.
A las 2:30 pm debíamos estar en el estacionamiento en donde quedó el autobús que nos llevaría de vuelta a nuestro destino, pero antes de seguir teníamos que hacer una parada obligatoria en un sitio llamado Chocolatico en el que hay una gran venta de chocolates, pero yo quería era ir a comer Fresas con crema, que según dicen que son las mejores de Venezuela, ya les daré mi opinión acerca del tema.
Llegamos y empezó a lloviznar, era más como un rocío que una lluvia. La cantidad de neblina era impresionante, pero lo mejor: una hoguera para hacer malvaviscos asados que estaban repartiendo en el sitio. En la foto se observa a mi sobrino y a mi hermana asando malvaviscos, esto es toda una técnica.

When the rain came down, I was able to take pictures at the Yo ❤️ Colonia Tovar sign which was very kindly taken by one of the tour guides, I am very grateful because the pictures turned out great.
Cuando escampó, pude tomarme fotos en el Cartel de Yo ❤️ Colonia Tovar que fue tomada muy amablemente por uno de los guías del Tour, estoy muy agradecida porque las fotos quedaron buenísimas.
Colonia Tovar is one of the tourist attractions par excellence of our country, it is also the place that many Venezuelan newlyweds choose to celebrate their honeymoon because of the romantic atmosphere that surrounds the town, I really would have liked to go accompanied, well, another type of company, you know. but I still had a great time, we made new memories as a family, and this year I want to go back. Maybe I wouldn't do the whole tour, but maybe something more like staying some mornings and going for a walk around town some afternoons.
If you do not know Colonia Tovar I recommend it, it is a charming place, it is not expensive, you can go up through Caracas, El Junquito more precisely, or through La Victoria, which is where I went up. I would love to continue touring my country because traveling is something I have done all my life and I want to continue doing it. La Colonia Tovar es una de las atracciones turísticas por excelencia de nuestro país, además que es el sitio que escogen muchos recién casados venezolanos para celebrar su luna de miel por todo el ambiente romántico que envuelve el pueble, de verdad que si me habría gustado ir acompañada, bueno, otro tipo de compañía, ustedes saben. pero igual la pasé riquísimo, hicimos nuevas memorias en familia y este año quiero volver. Tal vez no haría todo el Tour, pero tal vez algo más como quedarme en alguna mañana e ir a caminar el pueblo alguna tarde.
Si no conocen la Colonia Tovar se las recomiendo, es un sitio encantador, no es costoso, pueden subir por Caracas, el Junquito más precisamente, o por la Victoria que fue donde yo subí. Amaría seguir recorriendo mi país, porque viajar es algo que he hecho toda mi vida y quiero seguir haciéndolo.
