Dear friends of #worldmappin , I want to share with you a place that captivated me enormously: the “Boca Chica Lagoon”. This lagoon is located in the Macanao Peninsula, between Boca de Pozo and El Manglillo, in the state of Nueva Esparta, on Margarita Island.
Queridos amigos de #worldmappin, quiero compartir con ustedes un lugar que me cautivó enormemente: la “Laguna Boca Chica”. Esta laguna se encuentra en la península de Macanao, entre Boca de Pozo y El Manglillo, en el estado Nueva Esparta, en la isla de Margarita.
I will tell you that we were driving along the Macanao Peninsula, our goal was to reach Punta Arenas Beach, when suddenly we came across this beautiful lagoon in front of our eyes. We asked the name and other characteristics of the lagoon to some locals who were decorating a rock, putting the Virgin of the Valley, since she is the patron saint of the island and is celebrating her birthday on the 8th of this month. For that reason, they put a new costume and cleaned her up. These days here on the island are days of great pilgrimage of the Virgen del Valle.
Les contaré que íbamos por la península de Macanao, nuestro objetivo era llegar a Playa Punta Arenas, cuando de repente nos topamos frente a nuestros ojos con esta hermosa laguna. Le preguntamos el nombre y demás características de la laguna a unos lugareños que estaban adornando una roca, poniendo la Virgen del Valle, ya que es la patrona de la isla y está cumpliendo años el próximo 8 de este mes. Por esa razón, le colocaron un traje nuevo y la limpiaron. Estos días acá en la isla son de gran peregrinación de la Virgen del Valle.
According to what we were told, this lagoon is approximately 800 meters long and 300 meters wide during the dry season; during the rainy season it is a little larger. It also has a high salt content, higher than that of the sea, and is the refuge of a very typical type of shrimp that occur in it. At sunset, up to two buckets of shrimp can be easily caught.
Según nos contaron, esta laguna tiene una extensión aproximada de 800 metros de largo y un ancho de 300 metros en época de sequía, en las lluviosas es un poco más grande. También posee un alto contenido de sal, mayor que el del mar, y es el refugio de un tipo de camarones muy típicos que se dan en ella. Al caer la tarde, se pueden sacar hasta dos baldes de camarones fácilmente.
On one side of the lagoon, the sea is very close, and when there is high tide, it feeds the lagoon, as well as rainwater. As the sun shines so much and the water evaporates, its salinity increases.
Por un costado de la laguna, muy cerca está el mar, y cuando hay marea alta, la alimenta, al igual que el agua de lluvia. Al darle tanto el sol y evaporarse el agua, aumenta su salinidad.
This beautiful lagoon is surrounded by large limestone rocks. The edges of the lagoon have a kind of plankton that is the favorite food of these shrimp, which come to the shore in the afternoons in search of them.
Esta hermosa laguna se encuentra rodeada de grandes rocas calizas. Los bordes de la laguna tienen una especie de plancton que es la comida predilecta de estos camarones, que salen a la orilla en las tardes en busca de ellos.
There is also a species of larvae on the shore that feed small birds that do not mind being photographed as they feed along the shore of the lagoon. These birds add a touch of life and movement to the serene landscape of the lagoon, creating a natural spectacle.
También hay una especie de larvas en la orilla que alimentan a unas pequeñas aves que no les importa ser fotografiadas mientras se alimentan por toda la orilla de la laguna. Estas aves, añaden un toque de vida y movimiento al paisaje sereno de la laguna, creando todo un espectáculo natural.
It is a very quiet place. It was just us and the locals who dressed the Virgin. Thanks to them, I was able to learn more about this beautiful place. The bad thing is the strong sun and the little place to take shelter, for that reason it was necessary to put on plenty of sunscreen. In addition, it is advisable to stay hydrated at all times.
Es un lugar muy tranquilo. Éramos solo nosotros y los lugareños que vistieron a la Virgen. Gracias a ellos, pude saber algo más de este hermoso lugar. Lo malo es el fuerte sol y el poco lugar donde guarecerse, por esa razón había que colocarse bastante protector solar. Además, es recomendable mantenerse hidratado en todo momento.
I walked along the edge of the lagoon for a while and, as I turned off to the sea area, we found bush melons blooming beautifully.
Caminé un rato por el borde de la laguna y, al desviarme al área del mar, encontramos melones de monte floreciendo muy hermosos.
The truth is that it was a beautiful and very relaxing moment. The entire edge of the sea was full of snails of various sizes and kinds. These snails, with their shells of various colors and shapes, were a reminder of the rich biodiversity of the region.
La verdad es que fue un momento hermoso y muy relajado. Todo el borde del mar estaba lleno de caracoles de diversos tamaños y clases. Estos caracoles, con sus conchas de variados colores y formas, eran un recordatorio de la rica biodiversidad de la región.
