My day started nice and early, as I had to go to the Unik hotel for a chlorine measurement and drop off the bills. But I knew it would end early and my husband and I planned to go to a place we were told about and don't know about: the Guatamare Dam.

Mi día comenzó muy bien y temprano, pues tuve que ir al hotel Unik a una medición de cloro y dejar las facturas. Pero sabía que terminaría temprano y planeamos mi esposo y yo ir a un lugar del cual nos hablaron y no conocemos: el dique Guatamare.
Today, when my husband picked me up, I was a little surprised, because my son had given him the motorcycle so we could easily get to the place we wanted to see. I confess that I am not a motorcycle lover, but it was a great idea. So we set off for El Valle.
We entered the El Valle sector through Concepción Mariño Avenue. Upon entering, the first thing you can appreciate, apart from its beautiful landscape, are the hammocks hung around the entrance, along with other handmade accessories.
Hoy, cuando mi esposo me recogió, me quedé un poco sorprendida, pues mi hijo le había dado la moto para poder llegar con facilidad al lugar que queríamos ver. Les confieso que no soy amante de las motos, pero fue una idea genial. Así salimos rumbo al Valle.
Entramos al sector El Valle por la avenida Concepción Mariño. Al entrar, lo primero que se puede apreciar, aparte de su hermoso paisaje, son hamacas colgadas que ofrecen en toda la entrada, junto a otros accesorios hechos a mano.
Then there is a beautiful residence called Villas del Valle.
Luego está una hermosa residencia que tenía por nombre Villas del Valle.
Next is the El Valle medical center.
Seguido se encuentra el centro médico El Valle.
We took Concepción Mariño Avenue, which I had a hard time knowing the name because everyone wants to call it Carretera del Valle. We continued along it until we reached El Río street.
Tomamos la avenida Concepción Mariño, que la verdad me costó mucho saber el nombre porque todos le quieren llamar carretera del Valle. Continuamos por ella nuestro camino hasta llegar a la calle El Río.
It was well named because it is crossed by the El Valle river, which is fed by the streams that come down from the Copey mountain range. What can I tell you about the vegetation: it is beautiful and wooded, it has huge oak trees and there are also many curujey, which are usually found in humid and wooded environments. It is a very pleasant climate near the river.
Que bien tenía su nombre porque la atraviesa el río El Valle, que es alimentado por los arroyuelos que bajan de la sierra Copey. Qué les puedo decir de la vegetación: es hermosa y boscosa, tiene enormes robles y también hay bastantes curujey, que se suelen dar en ambientes húmedos y boscosos. Es un clima muy agradable el que se encuentra cerca del río.
A local, who was the one who gave me most of the information, told me that when there are heavy rains, the river occupies a large part of this street and makes it impassable. That is why it is called El Rio Street. I like to hear what a local has to say because sometimes they are anecdotes that are passed on from generation to generation, from mouth to mouth.
Un lugareño, que fue quien me dio gran parte de la información, me contó que cuando hay fuertes lluvias, el río ocupa gran parte de esta calle y la deja intransitable. Por eso se llama calle El Río. Me gusta escuchar lo que un lugareño tiene que decir porque en ocasiones son anécdotas que se trasladan de generación en generación, de boca en boca.
We turned back after appreciating the river to continue in search of the Guatamare Dam. We took the street that had the name “El Dique” until we reached our destination.
The road was quite difficult, as it was not passable by vehicles, and with the motorcycle we got as close as we could to the dam. As it has not rained much, the water is not so high. This dam is fed by the El Valle river and other streams, but, according to what the local told me, the streams have diminished due to climate change and overpopulation.
This dam was built to accumulate water and, at the same time, to control flooding in rainy seasons, due to the water coming down from the Copey hill and the El Valle knife, which are the major source of the river's water supply. The idea is to control its inflow with this dam so that its passage through the city of Porlamar is controlled and serious flooding is avoided.
Nos devolvimos después de apreciar el río para seguir en busca del dique Guatamare. Tomamos la calle que tenía el nombre “El Dique” hasta llegar a nuestro destino.
El camino era bastante difícil, pues no era transitable por vehículos, y con la moto nos acercamos lo más que pudimos al dique. Como no ha llovido mucho, el agua no está tan alta. Este dique se alimenta del río El Valle y otros riachuelos, pero, según me contó el lugareño, han mermado los riachuelos debido al cambio climático y la sobrepoblación.
Este dique fue construido para poder acumular agua y, a su vez, para controlar un poco las inundaciones en épocas lluviosas, por el agua que baja del cerro Copey y la cuchilla del Valle, que son la mayor fuente de alimentación del río. Se trata de controlar su afluencia con este dique para que su paso por la ciudad de Porlamar esté controlado y se eviten serias inundaciones.
It only remains for me to tell you that the views of the dam and the hills have been beautiful, and although I have not been able to go on vacation like my husband, I have been able to enjoy the tours he has planned to see places we do not know, with very beautiful natural views.
Solo me queda decirles que las vistas del dique y los cerros han sido hermosas, y aunque no he podido salir de vacaciones como mi esposo, he podido disfrutar de los recorridos que él ha planificado para poder ver lugares que no conocemos, con vistas naturales muy hermosas.
Then we returned to Concepción Mariño Avenue, enjoying the streets and the murals, most of them with the image of the Virgen del Valle.
On this avenue, the mayor's office also painted a beautiful mural that everyone who passes by has to stop and look at.
Después nos devolvimos por la avenida Concepción Mariño, disfrutando de las calles y los murales, que la gran mayoría son con la imagen de la Virgen del Valle.
En esta avenida, la alcaldía pintó también un hermoso mural que todo el que pasa tiene que detenerse a mirar.
