In my previous post, I talked about my trip to Obudu Mountain Resort.
Now please allow me the pleasure of taking you on the journey of my experience at the resort
The Resort Experience
After consuming the sumptuous meal, we immediately set out to view the resort.
Words elude me, I have few words to describe how close to nature I felt with the mountain resort. I just hope the pictures I took will be able to do justice to capture the sheer beauty and all I experienced.
The various activities one can engage in the famous resort include site-seeing, hiking, swimming, canopy walk, sports (there is a golf course) and horse riding
The Resort exceeded my expectations, before going there, I thought it was just a cattle ranch but I getting there I discovered more than that. It was like any other community where people go about their normal daily activities to make a living. There is a school, spa, church, mosque, market and other institutions. Although the population is not much, there are many children and livestock. The locals were very friendly and welcoming.
The Intestinal Road View
This is the road that brings one up the mountain to the resort. The road network is ina spiral pattern and narrow giving it a zig-zag view from the top.
What even makes it more breath- taking is the black and white paintings on the walls of the road.
Obudu Mountains
Obudu is blessed with big mountains and lush green hills that create an amazing landscape to behold. Some refer to it as the Holy Mountains
The panoramic scene from the top of these mountains and hills together with the clean gentle wind and serene ambience makes one want to savour these moments forever
The mountains provide a form of relaxation to the soul and body and it's the best form of connection and communication with nature. It provides a form of escape from civilization for a while.
Fun fact: the mountains played a significant role as a hideout during the Nigerian Civil War. The dug out holes where the locals hid can still be seen on the mountains
Also from the mountains you could see bikes heading over to Cameroon
It is believed by both tourists and locals that praying at a particular part of this mountain brings one closer to God and that makes God answer prayers speedily.
Beecheeve Nature Reserve and Tree Nursery
This is a conservation forest filled with plants of various species and animals. There are various sorts of trees even has trees from before civilization. We saw some snakes and were showed some trees that's dinosaurs fed on
The forest reserve is a very massive hecter of land about 65 heaters, with a tree nursery at the entrance. The forest reserve has preserved plants and trees that are in extinction
The Canopy Walk
The major highlight of the Becheeve Forest Reserve is the canopy walk.
The Canopy Walkway is a 100m swaying bridge that is suspended over 80m above the bottom of the forest.
It was a bit scarry but I had to do it to cross it off my bucket list. 😉😉
The view along the walkway to the canopy is breathtaking and filled with forests of different tress towered over us and somewhere below, lay the source of the waterfall and the famous pool at the Grotto.
The Grotto Waterfall
The grotto is a beautiful mini waterfall with a deep pool.
Once you arrive it just takes your breath away with admiration.
We were told the waterfall was artificially modified to allow the water accumulate to create the deep pool
Grotto is often used for parties, bonfires, hangouts and barbeques. It has a sitting area with shade, it also has a fire place for grilling or creating the bonfire.
There are well laid out steps, railings and guidelines to help get to the waterfall.
It is one of the best attractions to enjoy as the sound of water just calms your soul and allows for relaxation and meditation
The Resort Huts and Villa
The resort has all sorts of amazing lodges and villa including hut-like chalet and Presidential Villa. The scenery is just breath-taking
The hut-like chalet are the cutest lodges you will see in Obudu.
They also have self-contained suites with different sizes and price range.
There is the two bedroom Governor's lodge with private lounge and dining room and Kitchenette.
There are the about 20 three- bedroom mountain villas each with a dining room, kitchen and balcony
The resort restaurant
The resort has a restaurant and bar where amazing but expensive delicacies and beverages can be found.
The restaurant serves mouth-watering cuisines of all sorts.
Horse-Riding
I had so much fun horse-riding. The horses were very friendly. We rode into the forests
The weather in Obudu is very crazy, one minute you have clear skies, the next minute everywhere is foggy and very cold and you can't see anything
