Right in the center of Alpendurada e Matos, in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses, Portugal, is the Convento Beneditino, a unique place, full of history and imposing beauty with a cultural significance of relevance to this place.
This building dates back to the 11th century, is an architectural jewel and tells the story of centuries of religious devotion. Today I decided to drive about 40 minutes and see this fantastic work. The day was calm and quite warm, this convent was transformed into a hotel a few years ago, but the owner had financial problems and so it became state property.
To my amazement, it is currently abandoned and somewhat vandalized, although the windows are square and the museums and lakes still exist there.
It is possible to admire the Douro River right in front of this work of art, despite being abandoned, it remains imposing and majestic
The convent is known for its stunning views over the river, however the experience is even more fascinating with the possibility of exploring the place by air, thanks to the drone I recently acquired.
I managed to take impressive aerial captures of the location. Furthermore, I was also able to validate that there were people nearby so I could enter and see the interior.
I flew the drone very close to the front door, it still makes me a little confused to lose sight of it.
As the drone ascended, the panoramic view was immersive, it was possible to see its entire Portuguese tiled roof. they extended in all directions creating an aerial mosaic.
Its white walls contrasted with the entire environment of the place, involving itself with the surroundings.
As the drone moved smoothly over the convent, I was able to appreciate the architectural details up close. The Roman arches and some structures were visible even from many meters high.
For a moment it felt like I had gone back in time because everything was so old.
From the top it was possible to see the river precisely, the sunlight reflected on the waters so it was difficult to take photos against the sun.
Around the vegetation, the green of the trees and bushes that extended to the riverbed also contrast with the convent. As the drone continued, I was able to take photos from different angles of the building.
Thank you very much for reading
