Good Friday, friends!
This time I'm sharing some photos of a Traditional Street Market in the little town of Melide, which is right in the heart of Galicia. This may be a small town... but it sure has a lot of movement, since the The French Way to Santiago goes right through it.
This post is for the #MarketFriday initiative by @dswigle. 😊
One of the things I found interesting in this market is that it was scattered through a few quarters in the town.
On a back ally behind the church there was a little square where you would find vegetables and fruit stands...
All kind of healthy products were found here... and nothing besides that.
It was the most crowded area of the market, without a doubt.
The business was going very well for these vendors, almost everyone who passed here would stop to buy something... and some people would even fill huge bags with their favourite veggies.
Everything looked incredible fresh and tasty, so much that this lady had her bag completely full... but was still buying more. 🤣
On the main street and right next to the church there was a parked van selling potatoes, garlics and onions. Despite being right at the centre of the town, the business was not going very well for this guy. Where other vendors would make 10 sales, this guy was lucky enough if he sold a single potato. He was standing alone by his truck... and looking really bored. 😆
There were no lack of buyers... so I'm assuming the potato guy was doing something wrong. Maybe he should invest on a marketing team.
Here's another vegetable stand crowed with customers.
It was early in the day and the stocks were full... but they were going pretty fast. From the looks of it, by noon everything should have been gone.
To see the rest of the street fair, you'd have to walk for about 1km. The rest of the action was next to a local games park.
Surrounding this basketball court there were a lot of tents with colourful products...
When I got closer I realised this was the clothes department. Natürlich, this section had a lot more women, even though they also sold men's clothing.
However, the only men I saw weren't buying... or even browsing. They were simply walking around, talking to each other... while waiting for their ladies. 😁
Once again, everyone was selling well except for one stand. It looked almost abandoned.
Her neighbours were working non stop, serving customer after customer. There were a lot of variety: pants, skirts, scarfs, bags, hats... and in a lot of different colours too.
There were clothes for everyone and, unlike in American malls, no one was fighting over the pieces. 🤣
The spirit was a cheerful one, everyone was happy and having a great time in this simple street market.
I enjoyed it as well. No one was bothered by me taking photos. Here in Portugal I had a lot of bad experiences, most vendors start shouting and ask me to stop taking photos.
I have never felt the same in other countries, from Spain to Russia to the US... no one else acted that way. It must be a Portuguese thing. It's really a mystery to me. 🤔
