A Cuban in Edinburgh 🤗 [EN-ES]

Hello friends, I hope you have an excellent day, today I want to share with you details of my stay in Edinburgh. I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful city in Scotland, thanks to a collaborative project between the University of Havana where I am doing my research, and the University of Edinburgh.

I had had the opportunity to get to know other regions before, but this time it was my first time in Europe, my first time traveling alone and my first experience speaking English, which I confess was quite difficult for me at first, despite several courses that had been recommended to me, putting it into practice was not easy at all, because in British English there are letters that are pronounced differently. The professor who attended me there and his student and lab partner, both are Spanish, there was no problem with them because we communicated in Spanish, with other colleagues and friends it was something else.

During my stay, I was doing measurements at the University, and the colleagues at the laboratory welcomed me very well, I will always be very grateful to them for everything I learned there. It was my first practice making measurements on such Moderna equipment, in the laboratory everyone has his robe, his gloves, and his glasses to work, safety is very important. Upon my arrival they gave me a tour showing me each piece of equipment and how to measure, then everyone makes their measurements, that caught my attention a lot because as I had heard in other places, measurements are only made by technicians, there, however, they allow everyone to make their measurements. They helped me a lot and in case of any doubt, I always asked before, to guarantee quality measurements and good results in my research, which was the main objective of my stay.

I had little time to get to know the city because during the week I had to go ahead in the laboratory and I left the University very late, I only had weekends off, that's why I decided to sign up for guided tours and it was wonderful.

I was able to visit the National Museum of Scotland and see Dolly the sheep, I loved the animal section, you can find them even on the ceiling of the room.

I met the story of the little dog Bobby, who even has a statue, a curious story about this little dog who was watching over his owner's grave for years. It is said that it brings luck if you rub his nose, for that reason, the nose has another color and every so often it has to be repaired.

It is easy to get lost in the alleys of Royal Mile Street, some of them with unique stories. Walking along this street I could learn about Deacon Brodie, a merchant by day and thief by night, where there is a pub with his name.

The Elephant House, known as "The Harry Potter Cafe in Edinburgh”, is one of the most famous and frequented by writers and readers.

Climb Calton Hill, find ourselves at the top of the top the National Monument of Scotland, and enjoy the best views of Edinburgh, a monument to the Scottish soldiers who died fighting in the Napoleonic Wars, the project could not be completed and has only twelve columns.

Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument are other places where I had the opportunity to be in such a beautiful city. When we talk about Scotland, we think about the men in skirts and bagpipes, which I also appreciated during my walks.

I missed many places to visit in the two months of my stay, but my priority was to be able to finish the measurements in the laboratory and have good results, I will always remember Edinburgh, it is an ideal city to get away for several days.

Thanks for reading me and see you in my next words
