Hello everyone, today I have prepared for you the continuation of a virtual tour of the halls of the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic in St. Petersburg. Last time we started our tour of the lower part of the exposition, which is dedicated to the Arctic zone. And today we will go further.
ONLINE REFERENCE: The impetus for the opening of the museum was the active development of the Arctic territories. And 20 years later, in 1958, the museum became known as the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic. Today, the largest such exhibition in the world is located here. The number of storage units is about 100 thousand.
If we talk about the general impressions of the museum, the atmosphere of the middle of the last century is vividly felt here. It was during this period that many discoveries and expeditions to the Arctic took place. Real stuffed wild Arctic animals are amazing. I'm not a fan of the art of taxidermy, but animals do look like they're alive.
The lighting in the lower hall of the museum is not very bright, so I did not go into much detail about what is written on the stands and information signs. But I was struck by the numerous maps that show the various routes of polar hikes of different research expeditions.
There are many visual exhibits here. Personally, I always spend a long time looking at the display cases with various marine instruments, chronometers and various shipboard equipment. To be fair, all these things are authentic.
Since I am always interested in fine art, I paid attention to art panels and paintings. The canvases of the paintings here are all on the topic of polar research. All of them were written in different years and all have different sizes – from small to very large.
A separate theme of the museum is the beautifully executed dioramas. They are not very large and rather resemble large aquariums. All the subjects are well illuminated by spotlights, executed perfectly with great care and love, I want to look at them for a long time, which I did while I was photographing.
There are real models of airplanes hanging from the ceiling, which were used back in the 20-30s of the last century during the Chelyuskin expedition. There are also small models of airplanes and well-made models of polar ships of different times. They are somewhat similar to those that are on display at the Central Maritime Museum of St. Petersburg.
The stairs lead us up. There is an exhibition dedicated to Antarctic research. While I was climbing the stairs, I managed to film the plane as close as possible. Tomorrow we will continue our tour on the second floor of the museum, and that's it for today!

СПРАВКА ИЗ СЕТИ: Импульсом к открытию музея послужило активное освоение арктических территорий. А через 20 лет, в 1958 году, музей стал именоваться Музеем Арктики и Антарктики. Сегодня здесь находится самая большая подобная экспозиция в мире. Количество единиц хранения — около 100 тысяч.
Если говорить об общих впечатлениях о музее, здесь ярко ощущается атмосфера середины прошлого века. Именно в этот период происходит много открытий и экспедиций в Арктику. Удивительны настоящие чучела диких арктических животных. Я не сторонник искусства таксидермии, но животные и вправду выглядят, как живые.
В нижнем зале музея не совсем яркое освещение, поэтому я не сильно вдавался в то, что написано на стендах и информационных табличках. Но меня поразили многочисленные карты, где обозначены различные маршруты полярных походов разных исследовательских экспедиций.
Здесь много наглядных экспонатов. Лично я подолгу всегда разглядываю витрины с различными морскими приборами, хронометрами и различным корабельным оборудованием. Надо отдать должное, все эти вещи подлинные.
Так как меня всегда интересует изобразительное искусство, я обратил внимание на художественные панно и картины. Полотна картин здесь все на тему полярных исследований. Все они написаны в разные годы и все имеют разные размеры – от маленьких до очень больших.
Отдельная тема музея – шикрно выполненные диорамы. Они не очень большие и скорее напоминают крупные аквариумы. Все сюжеты хорошо подсвечены софитами, выполнены идеально с огромной тщательностью и любовью, Их хочется рассматривать подолгу, что я и делал, пока фотографировал.
Под потолком висят настоящие модели самолётов, которые использовались ещё в 20-30-е годы прошлого века во время экспедиции Челюскинцев. Есть тут и небольшие модели аэропланов и отлично сделанные модели полярных судов разных времён. Они чем-то напоминают те, которые выставлены в Центральном морском музее Петербурга.
Дальше нас ведёт лестница наверх. Там расположена выставка, посвящённая Антарктическим исследованиям. Пока я поднимался по лестнице, мне удалось заснять самолёт как можно ближе. Завтра мы продолжим нашу экскурсию на втором этаже музея, а на сегодня у меня всё!
