Hello everyone! Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking my family to Hermanus for a little Holiday. It is around 2.5 hours drive from home and takes us out of the busy City and Metropolis landscape, over the mountains and into a region of the South Coast of South Africa that have MUCH warmer waters than at our home Beach of Table View.
We drove through on Friday evening, myself, @clairemobey and the kids, @aimeludick, @merenludick and @matthew-williams.
We were staying the weekend with @jasperdick and @juliadick at their family holiday home, which was just magical.
@clairemobey and @jasperdick performed live music at the Skybar, about which you can read here - Holiday Part Two and SkyBar Gig Photos!! and MobeyDick - Live At SkyBar - Compilation Video.
But the morning before the performance, I was the first in our family to be up and about, I could hear the ocean but I had not seen it the night before because we arrived at night and in time for dinner!
So I took a walk down to the sea and discovered Langbaai.
The sun had not quite risen in the east...
I could see bits of the ocean.
The view back at the mountain looked great too.
The moon was also visible.
I then found this Cliff Path sign with the rules.
There was also this sign to educate the tourist regarding whale-spotting.
And here I got to see the ocean finally! Some rocky shore bits.
To the East the coastline stretched on, more beaches, paths and houses could be seen.
I also spotted quite a few benches that a person could stop and sit and watch the waves from.
To the west I could see a beach between the rocks, I decided to travel in that direction.
On the opposite side of that beach was another rock outcrop but this seemed to be something I could walk on. (I will be there later in this camera roll!)
I also looked down at the see, the rough surf and looked at that big rock and wondered if I should try climb on it between waves.. hehe.
I am sure that during high tide this thing will be completely surrounded by water...
Travelling towards the little beach I noticed some sort of sign on that outcrop of rock, I decided to go have a look.
Here was some sand to play in, and to sunbathe... but I don't think this would be a good beach to swim at.
Following the path I made it down to the beach, there was a stony section of the beach as well.
The roundness of the stones tells me that the waves come up to this level and rolls the stones around.
Looking back at the land side, the sun was still not visible, but it was getting lighter. You could also not really see the houses much, even though there were some that were right up the beach. There is a treeline and a footpath through them obscuing the view to the houses.
Here I got my feet in the sand...
...and then went to go put my feet in the water. It was quite cold.
Going up on the other side I found this boulder that had split off from the rest of the cliff. But it was wind-worn so I did not think there would be a chance of more coming loose soon... though I stayed away from the edges.
Looking back I could kind of see the bench I was at before, but it is quite hard to see it in the photo.
Standing on top of the rocks here, I could see the houses better.
I got to signpost I saw in the distance from the other location, but it did not have anything on it.
Walking along this rock shelf, I was going alongside the sea, much further than the other side. In other words, it thrust further into the sea than the other side of the beach.
From here I got some great pics of the rough ocean breaking on the rocks. There are quite a few pictures of this.
Here is the namepost for the Langbaai beach.
To the east of this a paved footpath continues to other beaches and sights.
I turned the other way to go back towards the house. There were more paths leading down to the beach.
But following the path westward, it takes you through the trees to places the trees completely bridge over the pathway.
This looks amazing. It was so quiet in the morning, with most people still asleep although there were some early birds on the path, walking or jogging, young and old alike.
And there you have it. My walk on the beach that Saturday morning. What a lot of cool sights to behold!
Thank you for reading!
Cheers!
