How The Crowd Almost Got Me Into Trouble
If there is one thing I don't like in my life it's seeing the vulnerable ones being taken advantage of. It's just like each time I witness anything like that the Superman spirit in me gets lit up and I can do the impossible.
I am known as someone who doesn't talk and doesn't look for trouble, but if you want to see me talk, temper with those who can't defend themselves, especially beautiful ladies. I wonder the kind of heart some men have, you would see a very vulnerable creature like that and then still raise your voice on them or even worse your iron hands, do you want to break them?
I never knew that some people don't like me for this good service I have been rendering unto humanity until some months back. They say "Never follow the crowd to talk when you don't know what is happening" but some of us will not listen.
I was passing with my friend to the market one morning when we heard this noise coming from a house like an uproar. You know I am a man of peace, wherever there is trouble I must go there and shine my light. My friend insisted we go our way but I pled with him to follow me into the compound and he gave in.
When we arrived there, we saw a lady sitting on the floor crying. The tears gushing down from this damsel's face like a waterfall really moved me, so I asked the people standing by what happened and they gave me some explanation that wasn't clear.
The people there were just throwing insults at the man whom I didn't even know, but from what I was hearing from the crowd, he was wrong, I found my way to the front and I joined them, I started throwing up insults too. When I heard that an old man tried to talk to him but he refused to listen.
"Who does he even think he is, why would he be beating a woman, who does that in this generation?" I was just throwing random words trying to blend with the crowd. You know we were many, I met a man standing close to a door there and I was like "If only they would let the man come out I am going to beat him blue black, who does he think he is that people would come here trying to beg him and he is proving stubborn?"
When I just finished saying those words, I heard "You will beat me blue black right?" It was the man I was standing close to asking, I laughed and said "Not you, brother, I mean the man beating this young woman."
He looked at me and pulled off his shirt, " I am he, come and beat me." My heart cut," No sir, that's not what I meant," I turned my back to see if those talking behind me would come for my aid but they seemed not to be anywhere close including my friend. I looked at the man's fist and honestly, if the man had started beating me up, I am not sure I was going to be alive before people come to separate us.
I knew I was in serious trouble. There is a saying in my place, "If a fight is bigger than you, turn it into a play". I had to look for a way to appease him so I said "You know we are all here for peace sir, fighting doesn't always solve the problem. In fact, in our family, even if you step on our foot we don't retaliate. If you think I am lying just step on my toes now and see for yourself, it's not about fighting." When I noticed he was calm, I quickly apologized. " I am sorry sir, I didn't know you were the father". I whispered. He looked at me and didn't know what to say but laughed.
It was then he told me that the lady is his daughter, she came home late last night, and she doesn't want to tell him where she was coming from that was why he got pissed off and reacted the way he did and he didn't even raise his hands on her, she ran out of the house when he started shouting at her
I don't know whom to agree with between the two but following a crowd can be so dangerous, it was that day I realized, that it doesn't really matter what the crowd is saying we should always verify things from both parties first before we decide which side to be on. The crowd can not be right all the time.
