Sharing a room with a snake

in #hive-16416611 months ago

Life is full of unpredictable events, some are quite scary but funny.

During my polytechnic days, students were privileged to stay in school hostels and after two semesters, all students are expected to go get hostels outside the school premises so that the new intake could occupy the hostels.

The reason for this was that the new intakes didn't know their way around and expected to get used to the new environment within the first two semesters.

Having access to good hostels is not as easy as we thought because the number of hostels around is relatively low compared to the demand by students.

Most landlords decided to increase the rent rate and we are left with no option but to go for any available hostel irrespective of its conditions.

The hostel I rented was very close to the bush, there were cases where monkeys normally invaded and ransacked our hostels after we all had gone for lectures.

Sharing my hostel with rodents is normal and as a result, I make sure I keep my foodstuff on my mini shelf opposite my bed so that rodents don't have access to it.

There was a day I was sleeping and I felt sensational bites on my feet, I found it interesting and I didn't bother to wake up, but by the time I woke up, my feet had been trimmed and eaten by rats.

In a nutshell, rats, cockroaches, wall geckos, etc were my buddies and I was used to their movements and sounds.

Suddenly my hotel which was always busy with rodent sounds went quiet for some days and I was like "Are these rodents on vacation"?

Within that period, I noticed I had been seeing dead rats and dead cockroaches with some parts missing.

I was still confused and was very sure that something must be wrong somewhere, but at the same time, I was very confident that nothing dangerous could be sharing my hostel with me.

While discussing with Isaiah a friend of mine after the lecture, I decided to share what I have been experiencing at home, he shouted and said I might have been sharing my room with a dangerous animal(s).

At that point, I was scared of going back to my hostel.

Isaiah invited two(2) of his friends and we planned to move out all my stuff from the room to know what could have been the reason(s) for the death of the rodents.

While moving out my stuff, Isaiah and his was trying to move the shelf when I saw a fast movement of a black animal.

I shouted "Hehe something black just moved now" We all ran out of the room to seek help.

I called this village boy who happens to be my neighbor, we explained the situation we found ourselves in, he laughed for so long and said: "That must be a snake".

While we all were watching through the window, this boy went straight into my room, used his bear hand to pull out the snake, and hit the snake on the floor and the snake died immediately.

I could not believe my eyes, I shouted "This dude must be crazy"

We carried all my stuff back into the room and everything became normal.

Truth be told, I missed the rodents around, hehehe.

Thanks for stopping by, gratitude.

How did you sleep in that room after discovering a snake, if it was me hmmm I would be damn scared, I wouldn't sleep sef, I'll be awake looking around if I would see anything or even imagine nonsense 😁😁😁😁

Funny you, that was actually how I felt as well, but with time, the snake stuff gradually disappeared from my memory.

Thanks for stopping by.
