Now, let's assemble here if you know you lied during your childhood because we know ourselves but if you haven't lied before, let me see your hands raised in the air 🙄
Being around children and seeing them do some funny things will make you remember how it went for you too. These kids help us flash back to memories of how we have also done the same thing and we would just smile. I was at the salon this week when this young boy came back from school, he is the son of the hairstylist. Immediately he came, he felt sad about scoring 10 over 60 in his exam as he started lamenting how the Mathematics subject was hard to do. He was trying to blame his teacher that he wasn't taught. See kids oo. I did this too to avoid being punished by my parents 😆 My little brother would use a blue pen to change the red scores on his report card, he thought our Dad would be so foolish not to detect.
Then comes the very happy little girl child, who told her mom how she scored 60 over 60. A girl of about 4 years. She was so smart with the way she was talking, I was pushed to ask what class she was and she said Nursery 2. Wow! Her mom was happy and congratulated her but didn't talk to her son, she felt sad that he didn't perform well in the exam.
Here comes the real gist
He brought out his English notebook to revise with his mom for his next exam. A composition about himself. As he was reading it out loud, I was listening while smiling with some lies he cooked up and when he got to a part, I laughed so hard with his mom's response. The boy read out: I am a Christian by religion. I go to church every day (his mother was trying to correct him that it is every Sunday) but insisting it's every day. Then his mom said, "are you okay? Did I kill Jesus's mother to start going to church every day? Common put Sunday for me". Everyone of us laughed which made me remember a girl I taught extra lessons some months ago. That is the girl in the above image.
She was given an assignment to do which was to write a composition about her favourite food and explain in steps on how to prepare it. I guess she didn't see that part where she needed to explain in steps. She started mentioning these foreign meals she hadn't tasted before. I was looking at her and in my mind, I was waiting for her to finish and pick one of the meals and start explaining to me because I want to learn a foreign meal 🤣
Finally, she settled for fried rice, salad and chicken. This girl hasn't seen anything yet. She wrote it down which I kept watching. "I am done writing, miss Busayo" was what came out of her mouth. "Done what?" I asked.
"I am done with my assignment", she said smiling faintly.
"Okay, I have heard you but read out the instructions and let me know if you are done truly", I told her while smiling back at her waiting for her drama.
She read it out and exclaimed, "Ahh! Miss Busayo, will I explain how to prepare that?" She asked.
"Of course, you will have to explain my dear and I want to learn how to prepare your favourite meal too. So, start, I am waiting for you".
She laughed and wronged her answer, "Miss Busayo, It's a lie. Fried rice, salad and chicken are not my favourite food. It is yam and egg".
I laughed to the extent that tears were rolling down from my eyes. "Are those not your favourite meals again? Why did you change it?" I asked
"Miss Busayo, the steps are hard and I don't know how to prepare them but yam and egg are simple, let me do that one please", she started faking a pitiful face for me.
"Alright then, but next time when you are given a composition like that, pick a simple food you can write about and not form rich kid" I told her
I remember when I wrote a particular food but cancelled and wrote Eba (cassava flakes) and okro soup which aren't hard to write down and I was done. Those who wrote foreign foods knew what they were in for that day 😆😆 Then, we wanted to show others we were eating good and rich food but our guards fell when we met those kinds of instructions for us to explain in steps how to prepare our favourite food 😃
