It's been a while since I last visited the famous city of Netherlands, Amsterdam though it takes only 20 minutes by train from my city. I normally avoid this city if I don't have any urgent work there. I remember last year when I saw Amsterdam for the first time I was so excited while exploring the city but after my mental breakdown, my enthusiasm kinda became blur about Amsterdam. For sure this city is amazing, a lot of things and activities to do, it's just me who lost interest and doesn't find anything entertaining there. Of course, this happened because of my depression because everybody loves Amsterdam.
This summer I didn't go to Amsterdam Central because I had nothing to do there. Well, I believe I went there once during the summertime for work and document purposes. Last week once again I had to go to Amsterdam for an urgent purpose. Then I thought I should take a walk near the canals after all it's been a while since I took a walk in Amsterdam in the evening. In my opinion before evening and after the evening is the best time to walk in Amsterdam near the canals. It feels good.
I haven't explored the entire Amsterdam, unfortunately, I didn't have the chance and opportunity. I went to a few locations for work purposes, walked on some streets near the center, tasted food in some restaurants (mostly Asian and Turkish), and did a boat ride last year. That's it. I only saw two local festivals in Amsterdam, the KWAKU Summer Festival and the Famous Light Show Festival. Of course, I have attended Hivefest 2022 in Amsterdam. It's not like I don't get the opportunity to attend the events, it's me who actually doesn't wanna be involved in anything.
If you are new in Amsterdam or planning to travel to Amsterdam, I am sure you will enjoy everything and will have so much fun. Because whenever I go, I find and see something new and interesting. If I were a tourist, I would have enjoyed the Amsterdam tour more than anything. Night life, day life, shopping, museums, activity zones, canal tours everything is available in Amsterdam. Almost every week 2-3 events and music festivals happen there.
These images didn't turn out how I wanted to be but I am sharing them with you to give a small idea of the city. Personally, I love gabbled-style buildings, they are unique and you won't be able to see them anywhere else I believe. These buildings are nicely preserved and mostly used for commercial purposes. These buildings are also located near the canal and some are on the canal. But there is a huge difference between Venice and Amsterdam city, to figure out what it is, you need to explore both cities...
The culture in Amsterdam is liberal, open-minded, and full of history. Well, I only explored a few locations, still need to see all the famous museums.
Anyway, another fact I wanna mention here is the bicycle trend. Bicycle is very popular in the Netherlands and one of the main transport system in the Netherlands. Almost everyone has a bicycle here and many people often use other people's bicycles, I don't know how but I heard it. Here people prefer a bicycle over a car because it's a cheaper and easier way to go anywhere. In Amsterdam, you will see thousands and millions of bicycles instead of cars, especially in the old city center. It's very easy to explore the city with a bicycle instead of a car because of the street and parking problems.
I am going to share some unique photos with you.
During spring and summertime, you will see such kinds of decorated bicycles displayed here and there in Amsterdam. They are attractive and famous among the tourists to take photos. Most of them are displayed near the canals, and famous tourist points, and decorated with fake flowers.
Why these bikes were decorated? The answer is here.
The bikes are not the work of a mythical Dutch bike fairy, but an American man in his 50s by the name of Warren Gregory. Known fondly as the Flower Bike Man, Warren's bike-decorating began when his wife couldn't find her bike at Amsterdam Central. source
These decorated flower bikes look gorgeous and brighten the streets of Amsterdam, especially canal areas. Well, some people especially women decorate their bikes with flowers to make them unique because in Amsterdam, "bike stealing" is normal. Even I have seen many fallen bikes in the canal. If you are not careful, your bike will be stolen.
Probably next time I will make a post only to feature all kinds of decorated bikes in Amsterdam but for now, this is it...
