Dear friends of Motherhood, Welcome to my Blog.
Receive all of you a cordial greeting.
One of the things that fill us with fear when we are parents is when our children are afflicted with some discomfort, at that moment we do not know what to do even before consulting with a medical specialist we usually try to diagnose that discomfort ourselves.
A very common mistake is to try to describe that discomfort in the internet search engines trying to find some binding information. The internet is a very useful tool, full of a lot of information, but we can also find false information.
Reiterating the above, the internet can offer a lot of information, but we do not have the necessary academic preparation to know if that discomfort is this or that, we can even incur in false diagnoses, which can cause us to lose our minds and terror invades us.
Mi experiencia personal.
My personal experience.
As you all know 3 months ago my son Daniel was born,my son is a very healthy baby, my wife's pregnancy was excellent about 1 month ago my son began with symptoms of intermittent cough and stuffy nose 2 days later he began to have intermittent flaring which came and went with all these symptoms we decided to take him to the pediatrician the pediatrician examines him and sends him for a complete hematology test and platelets.
That same day we performed the tests. They were given to me at 4 pm, and at that time the pediatrician had already left the office. So I wanted with my wife to try to interpret the tests, the hemoglobin was 11.3 and the platelets were at 1200, that set off the alarms, since we were in the presence of a viral or infectious condition, 1200 were very high numbers. Full of concern, we tried to describe the symptoms on Google and even put the values obtained in the blood tests. Obviously we got a lot of information, which ranged from viral symptoms such as common flu to chronic diseases.
I admit that that night I did not sleep at all, full of worry and anxiety, because I wanted the next day to arrive quickly to go to the doctor's office. When we arrived at the pediatrician's office, the specialist performed another physical examination of my son and to reassure us he told us..:
"Here we are in the presence of a viral or infectious condition, we can also see that there may be an iron deficiency since the hemoglobin is a little low".
There began all the questions that were going through my head: What could this be due to? Is it dangerous? Could it be this? Could it be that? Faced with so many questions, the doctor told me that it was necessary to rule out factors, he told me to perform a cardiac ultrasound, because he wanted to rule out Kawasaki.
He was very sincere with us:
Physically the child looks very healthy, strong and even with a very good countenance. My experience tells me that it could even be a common flu, but it is necessary to rule out everything and Kawasaki is a virus that attacks the blood vessels, with the echo we can determine if there are traces of this virus, since it leaves traces ".
The next day we went to the cardiologist to perform an echo on our baby. At the end, the specialist told us that the baby was in perfect condition, that no alterations were observed. This filled us with joy, but we still had to wait for the pediatrician's opinion.
The following week we went to the pediatrician, we took the results of the echo and again he sent for a repeat blood test that same afternoon and the platelets were around 680, obviously there was a great improvement, however the hemoglobin was still at 12.2, even a little low. So her diagnosis was a common viral infection with iron deficiency anemia. I gave him iron drops, vitamin B12, folic acid and vitamin C.
After performing all the treatment we repeated all his tests and all his values are in perfect condition, from all of the above I got a great lesson. Among them was the experience of not trying to interpret medical tests or to look for symptomatologies on the internet (laughs).
I also understood that in this type of situation the most advisable thing to do is to keep calm and go to the specialists, since they are the people qualified to deal with any medical case.
Trying to interpret tests or searching the internet will only cause stress, anxiety and fear to invade us. It is okay to worry, but it is necessary to keep calm, now this event is part of the biggest scares I have gone through with my son. But also thanks to this I got to know the excellent health of my son, whom I love and all my life I will protect.
